I have started polishing this shell and its looking good but there are some lite scratches in the aluminum , Can I take some 600 or 1000 grit sand paper and wet sand them out ? I know sound like a waste of time but I will post before and after pics when I 'm done . Thanks

Yes, you can wet sand them out..... start with 400, then 1000, then 1800 and then you can polish with mothers or whatever metal polish you like. I use blue magic.

You can polish plastic with it too. I've even used it to get small scratches out of paint jobs.

I did my 1970 outer shell a few years ago. I worked the
cad coating off and polished the aluminum.

When you get it a shiney as you want, buff it off with
clean paper towels until there is no black left showing on
the paper. Do not let your bare fingers touch any of the
shiney area. It can now be coated with clear lacquer or
Krylon gloss clear.

I have used Krylon clear on other items and it seems to
look better than the lacquer. I have had good luck with
polished steel; brass and copper.

If you take fresh blasted cast iron and coat it with Krylon
satin clear, it will keep the fresh blasted look for years.
I use about three heavy coats so the pores will fill. I have
not done this with any parts that are under a hood but
on antiques such as fireplace irons and saws. Has not
rusted in 15 years.

If people out there dont have any of the stores listed in this thread that has Blue Magic, go to just about any truck stop.

Anyone ever try Wenol Polish?

Work pretty good, they have two different stages of polish depending on what condidtion the metal is in.

Blue Magic sound like its worked for a few, may have to give it a try.

Picked my Blue magic @ walmart, or custom wheel shop. I also use it with a buffing wheel and a drill. Use a good drill and dont work it to hard, to keep from burnning it up your drill. Also be carefull around the edges of the wheels or what ever your polishing becaues the drill will like to jump and then you just have to sand out another ding and start again. Good luck Seth

I'd recommend a final sanding of 1500 wet. The finer you sand the easier to buff and not to mention a kickass finish.

I have one of those campers. Mine will be that polished by next year. That's the stuff to mirror AlCad aluminum.

will this blue stuff work on rough aluminum surfaces? the slots of my aluminum wheels are pretty rough, but i was thinking of sanding them down, and trying to get a shine out of them --- make them look like chrome. do i need to sand first, then use this blue stuff? or will it polish rough surfaces?

thanks!
jewels.

Jewels: If you buy some of that Blue Magic, be sure to hide it from your mother........ she might try to sell for $0.10 when you aren't around!

Na, but you can smooth out the rough surfaces by sanding them. If you're talking about cast surfaces, you can sand the casting surface off with 100 grit dry sand paper, then wet sand the scratches out with 240 grit and soapy water, then wet sand with 400, then 1000, then 1800. It's a little work but it does a nice job. I polish alternators by doing exactly as I described. Good luck!
