Gear indicator not working.

Hi all. My gear indicator has just stopped working. It no longer tells me if I am in D or N etc. Can someone give me any ideas on how to fix this?
Cheers.

Re: Gear indicator not working.

Take the dash bezel off and see what happened. Maybe the spring or needle broke.

Re: Gear indicator not working.

Or the cable may have broken, it is on mine (someone probably dropped the column without disconnecting stuff first).

On mine there is a band that connects the pointer that is broken. I haven't looked into fixing it cause I have other things that need attention first for something that is just nice.

Look around the collar there are some it's a clip, needs a squeeze.
Or some it's a real short star screw, holding the clip.
Up into a grove in the cluster across to the pointer,a spring pulls it back.

Re: Gear indicator not working.

Thanks guys. From what you are saying it sounds like may be a broken or detached spring. The pointer on mine stays to the right on the last position it was put on. Doesn't return to P. Looks like I have another weekend job to do. Cheers.

Re: Gear indicator not working.

If it stays to the right, the spring is broken. If it stays to the left, the cable is broken.

Re: Gear indicator not working.

All fixed. Turns out the wire/cable had come out of its groove. The pointer was a little notchy in its movement too, so I greased that. Now works perfect. Whilst I was at it I adjusted the pointer to sit over the middle of the D and P etc. Thanks again for the help.
