Brake booster question
I'm up grading my 1970 3/4 ton from drum to disc in front so I ordered a 1972 booster/master cylinder combo from Advanced..figuring 72 had disc up front so it should all bolt right up...or not.
What I bought. what came off my truck. My original booster was bad so that's what prompted my combo purchase. The issue is the rod is longer on my new booster. Do I need a different bracket (longer) from a 72 to make this work? Should I just get a 1970 booster and then a 72 master? |

Re: Brake booster question
You can buy an adjustable rod and adjust it to give you the same overall length you currently have.

Re: Brake booster question
Okay Steve that gives me one option.
Looks like a longer bracket would be the cheapest. Does a 73-87 bracket accomplish the same thing? I passed a scrapyard yesterday with that model out front. |

Re: Brake booster question
As I recall, the 71/72 disc booster bracket mounts the booster farther from the firewall. They also added a couple braces from the booster to the firewall which were probably needed for additional support. Here is a picture (top) showing the braces. If you look for the braces, the "flat" one for the 3/4 ton is different (longer) than the 1/2 ton version (see 2nd picture for comparison). Unfortunately, I don't have a picture from the side showing the mounting brackets.
EDIT: Here's a link to a thread that shows a side view in post #4. It's a half ton but the bracket is the same. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=628830 Last edited by FirstOwner69; 12-23-2014 at 02:03 PM. |

Re: Brake booster question
The longer booster to firewall brackets will make your booster combination work. It does push the assembly forward as can be seen in the attached photo.
