454 parts question for trucks!
wondering what you guys with a 454 in a 81-87 c/10 might be using for headers...what brand fits best..
also, did you have to change your front coil springs to compensate for the weight of the big block? will the bell housing from a th350 that was bolted up to a 327 still fit the 454? did you HAVE to change your fan shroud...seen alot of big blocks in el camino's that used the small block fan and shroud? would i need a different fan clutch... i all ready have my brackets! just these last few items are in question....goin to the parts yard this weekend!

I am going to use Sanderson BB3 coated headers (Chevelle application) becuase they don't hang down. I have used Heddman (cracked) but I don't want anything hanging below the frame.
You don't need new springs to compensate, what you have will work fine. You can use a SBC fan shroud also, no difference. Same clutch fan should be ok, unless it is worn out/not working properly.

81lwb350,
I used DynoMax ceramic coated headers on my 81 w/454 that is lowered 5/5 with not problems. And your bellhousing will bolt up with no problems. Virgil |

Be sure you use a flexplate with the counterweight for a 454. Get one with both converter-bolt patterns just in case.

44th Miss Inf
virgil,
are you using full length headers or shorties... captC - those are sweet...could be a end to a future problem when lowering later...2/4 at first...maybe lower when its no longer going to be a daily driver. and $$$ permits...lol thanks for all the tips so far guys!

Mine are full length. Never drug them and have never had a problem with them.
