homemade center console

I got a set of seats out of a 04 duramax work truck, just the front two but no center console. my truck is currently a 5speed (missing 4th gear) so I will be swapping in a 700r4 that I have laying round, ill be doing a floor shifter. im trying to find some ideas on a center console. ill be making this out of plywood and 2x4's for the frame. just trying to figure if I should cut up a cooler for the inside of it. and the best way to conceal the floor shifter to make it look stock. the truck is a extended cab. I have a few center consoles out of some fox bodies that I have, and one out of a 98 sunfire. any input with pictures of a homemade center console in a gm truck would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: homemade center console

I have been toying with the idea of building a new Console for a while. I want to put a screen for a backup camera in under the dash as well as some other storage. As a wood worker, 2x4's and plywood are not the best choice. 1/2"-3/4 MDF, glued and screwed together would be a better choice. you could cut it in something other than just a square shape. That would be smoother finish that would be easier to apply vinyl or other upholstery over.

I have been mulling this over for a while but just haven't come up with a design I really like.

Re: homemade center console

Ok so I didn't build the center console this weekend, nor did I install the seats. Instead I opted to build a bed cover. Was browsing online seen how expensive they were. Decided to build my own with a few sheets of left over ply wood from work, and 3 2x4's. So I have no money in it. Just money in pizza for the guys helping me. Ok on to the pictures.

I don't know if you might want to consider metal but here's the one I made. I don't have my GPS or Switch Panel installed on the plate just under the dash yet but it may give you an idea for something
