1967 C10 327 production numbers.

I searched for this but didn't find out what I was looking for. Does anyone know how many 1967 C10's were produced with the 327 engine? I'm looking at one for sale (allegedly numbers matching). It's pretty rough but has the correct VIN for a 327. I'll pass on it unless it's somewhat rare.

Thanks in advance.

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

Chevrolet did not break down options in trucks like that. You are lucky to even find believable breakdowns between L6 and V8 models over the years.

The 327 was an optional engine in 67. An "E" in the VIN only indicates the truck was built with a V8. Without a Protect-O-Plate or a build sheet its difficult to verify an engine as original.

* VIN/Model Decoders
* Power Team Charts (engine/transmission/gear ratio)
* Post Your Pickup SPID Blazer SPID Suburban/Panel SPID
* RTFM

A lot more than GMCs, I know that! The engine number is stamped in the pad in front of the head on the driver side front. You can check to see if it's correct for the truck it's in.

Not to hijack but clarify. The numbers and letters stamped on the passenger side front pad of the block, are they specific to each truck serial #? I know the newer vehicles are, but was unsure of the older cars/trucks

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

Yeah, that number...heh heh. The suffix will tell year, displacement, HP, 4bbl/2bbl (sometimes which carb), manaul/automatic>3spd/4spd, body>what it came in (conventional cab/van/C/10, K/20, etc). Sometimes more than one specific application.

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

The engine assembly number is not specific to a vehicle.
It identifies the engine plant, build day and month (but not year) and general configuration it was built for (suffix code).

On any 67-72 this number is the closest you will find to verify an original engine and you need a Protect-O-Plate to document it.
A build sheet only carries a scheduled build date and the engine suffix.

So at best, you can run it down to any of the engines built at one plant in one day of a specific configuration.

They were to passenger cars but not in trucks.

Surprising since so many trucks had Corvette engines

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

I thought that 67 c10s werent available with a 327. If you wanted a v8 youd get the 283?

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

The 283 was the base engine on "E" models.
The RPO L30 327 (~$94.70) was the optional V8 and I have a number of SPIDs and shippers so optioned in 67 in my collection.

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

That was my understanding too, Tim. I am currently working on a 67 straight six, and found loads of 6's when i was looking. This 327 truck i looked at last weekend was the first I've encountered in the wild, though my exposure is quite limited by comparison. I don't know if it's an actual numbers matching truck like the seller says it is, but it did make me curious.

Definetly 327's in the 67's!
I was there in 67 when they rolled a couple off the truck at the local gm dealer.
I like to use this link to confirm motor info.

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

I can document at least seven 1967 VINs as L30 327 optioned.

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

I was there also. My dad bought the 67 I have. He ordered it with 250 six. That same year my uncle bought the sporty version with a 327. Both trucks came with a three on the tree. My point is, there is no doubt, the 327 was offered in the 67 c10.

Point in case the engine build code breaks down as

V Flint engine asembly plant
03 March
05 Fifth day of March
YR "327" 66 C10-20 with Powerglide, 67 C10-20 with Powerglide or 68 C20 with Powerglide

Re: 1967 C10 327 production numbers.

Yes, your engine. Not to poke holes but to show that suffix code "YR" was assigned to three different years of 327 truck engines with a powerglide.
Now it is a matter of checking the block casting number and date codes to nail it as original. The fact your SPID lists an L30 and M35 make it a very strong posibility as being original.

Thanks for the kind words on my dog. The prime reason is to help snag our large percentage of visitors who may be in my area and know of a "what if" dog.
Had one pop early this month that was really close.
