Swapping Transmissions

i have a 71 gmc 2500 with a turbo 350 and a 2 piece driveshaft. i want to make it a manual instead of an automatic but dont want to give up my first born to do it if you know what i mean i found a super t 10 that i thought about swapping in, how difficult is it to do, do i need to shorten the driveshaft? do i need to change the cross member or the slip yoke? or any other transmissions that might be better? if you guys could help me out that would be awesome!

Merry Christmas to all of you

Re: Swapping Transmissions

I am changing my 1970 c20 from a thm350 to a 4 speed. I don't know if its the same with that transmission, but the 3 and 4 speeds had a bell housing mount with a cross member up front and the back of the transmission hung in the air. The v8 crossmember has a twist and the I6 crossmember does not.

If you can measure the length of the bell to the end of the tailhousing then you will know if you have to modify the driveshaft. The yolk splines may be different where the driveshaft goes in to the transmission.

You also need the clutch z bar, pedal and any associated linkages. I do not know if the autos just had no clutch pedal or if the pedal assembly is different. You probably need a skinny brake pedal if you don't have one
