Rear End widths
Can anyone tell me if A 1995 c1500 rear diff will bolt into my 81 C10? If not what are the differences?
Thanks Willie |

Re: Rear End widths
Bolt in, probably not. At the very least the perches will be in a different spot. I think they are wider than 73-87 rears also.

Re: Rear End widths
The only thing they have in common is the diff internals. Wider and the perches are in the wrong spot.

Re: Rear End widths
Shock mounts would also have to be re-located.

Re: Rear End widths
It is actually a popular swap into a square body as it places the rear wheels further out and closer to in line with the track width of the front.
Leaf perches are in the completely wrong place so they need removed and new ones installed in the correct place for your truck. I can't remember the increase off the top of my head but it was a little over 1" per side. The only internals it shares with the older 10-bolt is the ring gear. It uses 30-spline axles instead of 28-spline like the square body version so the carrier is also different. As strong as the truck 12-bolt with many more donors on the road to choose from.

Re: Rear End widths
I was thinking about this diff as well but for a square 1 ton crew that im swapping 1/2ton stuff into. Was thinking the shock mount location may work with the 1 ton frame. Has anyone tried this?
