Clearly he's never heard of this forum. Not an LS motor or S-10 frame in sight.

Re: Gettin your moneys worth!

In 1973 I paid $235.00 for my '49 AD that had a 265 v8 installed. Had a valve lifter fail so drove it on 7 cylinders for about 2 years.
Of course, by now Ive spent way more that I can account for on restoration & up grades.
But my wife says she will bury me in the back yard in it.

It's so touching when they finally understand.

Re: Gettin your moneys worth!

I got mine in 76 for $450. I estimated I put 175K miles on it before taking it off the road for the current rebuild. Even with the conversion to V8 and 4wd in 85 my average cost of owner ship was about $200 per year.

Re: Gettin your moneys worth!

Interesting story from a dollars per mile standpoint, but personally? It would have driven me crazy to just let it deteriorate for DECADES.

I suppose my mentality (all of us on this website?) just doesn't jibe with a guy like that

I TOTALLY hear you Dan. I feel bad for the truck. Imagine how long it would have lasted if he actually took care of it? He disgusts me

Not me, his truck he can do what he wants. I drove mine 25 years keeping it mechanical sound (had to, spent too much time off highway in the boonies) and "preserving" the tin. Finally in 2000 decided to take care of the body work.

If I had it to do over would have stuck with the original plan to just take care of major rust, paint to match patina and rewire it. Not complaining, expect to run it for another 25 years with limited repairs, etc. Around here there are plenty of those survivors, I've probably tried to buy most of them but get the same answer: "What would I replace it with that is as reliable, inexpensive to maintain and I know so well???"

Seriously? He bought an old farm truck in the late 70's for $75, It probably didn't look much better than that when he bought it.

It brings a smile to my face knowing he kept it on the road all this time, instead of it sitting in a junkyard.
