Another steering column question

Anybody know if a 68 Suburban steering column is the same as a 68 Chevy trucks column?
I know the 67-72 truck columns are widely used on our trucks, but not sure if the burbans are any different?
Im running a 350 with a 700r4 auto trans, and this suburban column does not have column shift. Can I easily adapt a floor shifter to work with the auto trans?
I don't have any experience with swapping columns or transmission linkages so this is new to me so please excuse my ignorance.
Also my truck has 75 Camaro clip with power steering if it makes a difference.

I ended up going with an ididit column in my 48, just depends on how much you are willing to spend on that, I can't be of much use as to what other vehicles columns will work, but you can pick up a aftermarket one for a reasonable price, just have to look at options.
The floor shifter shouldn't be bad at all, many people use a lokar floor shift lever, and there are some others that make them as well. Not to say you couldn't fab one from other parts as well, again just depends on your budget, etc.

That column should be a bolt in in your truck. My guess is that your burb came with a four speed with no shifter. Don't throw the column away as that is a nice clean column to put in the earlier trucks and have turn signals.

The column shifter requires the cross piece that works the shifting shaft in the trans like is shown in this Ebay add It slips on a pin sticking out from the frame and connects to a lever on the trans shift shaft. for a floor shift, what ever automatic trans floor shift you find that connects to the trans correctly and has detents to work with the 4 speed auto trans should work but some may be made to fit a lot better.

It's pretty easy for many of us who do this a lot as you go to the wrecking yard and find a presentable automatic floor shift in a car with a four speed automatic (GM car in this case) get the shifter and the cable and the lever off the trans and take it back and install it. You might have to build a little stand on the floor to raise it up to where you want it or position it the way you want it. You might also have to buy a different length cable if the cable you have with it doesn't allow for the shifter to be positioned where you need it.
Otherwise there are several aftermarket shifters available that will work but are usually rather expensive if the budget is tight.
