Question What can swap into a 68 c10

Hello all, I am very new to these older c10's, and have some questions. I currently have access to a 68 c10 fleetside long box. It has a seized I6, and 3speed tranny with a floor shifter. My questions are, if I can find a 73-87 longbox, with a 350 and auto, what can I swap across in regards to drivetrain?

I would do the front disk brake conversion, but my concerns are, the auto tranny, (how hard to take the column shift and retro fit it), the drive shaft, (any difference in lengths?) and rear end, (I read somewhere that 68's had a 56" and mid 70's and up had a 56 3/4". If both trucks had the same rear suspension, (ie, both leaf, or spring) would the whole assembly be swappable?.

Sorry for the many questions, but the search function seems to be disabled, so I can't look for this info on this msg board without going through every post.

Also, is there a site that lists any of this information?

All I want is a 350 AT, disk brakes in the front, and 5 lug all around.

I also have access to a 77 - 78 impala, 305 AT. Will anything off that be usefull?

(sorry for all the questions)

Thanks

The 350 and the trany should swap quite easily. the driveshaft will need to be shortend. the rear end is as you say a little wider and will require some fab work if your truck has spring rear. You could keep your current rear. The front end of a 73-87 will work well as a donor for front swap also. You will need to find an auto column for a 67-72.

Good luck and welcome!

You will need an auto crossmember also.

you can use the radiator out of the later model truck too, but the lower hose outlet will need to be brased on from the old rad to the new.

If you use the long water pump & accessories from the 73 up, the radiator & hoses will match. You can set that sb in I 6 position(250 stands), & the later /long water pump will put the fan in about the proper position....you will need a little spacer. The I 6 250 mounts are the same as the sb mounts for 67-72, but be aware that the HEI dist does fit a little tight to the firewall in I 6 position. If you go that route, grab the steering hoses also. you will also need to cut out the bell crossmember that was for the stick. Good luck, crazyL
