Cab Replacement Question

Ok guys I am in need of some help. I have found several different threads and posts on this topic and I am getting mixed reviews and answers on it. I have a 84 K10 automatic SWB and I am wanting to start a rebuild on it but my cab is to far gone to use it. I have found a guy that has an 86 C series cab that was a manual and appears to be a C-30 cab with the clearance lights and HD style mirrors. Will this work on my K10 with out having to cut and swap the floor pans? He is asking $900 For everything in the pictures. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. This will be my first rebuild ever.

Issue is can you title it? It will have a vin tag on it and you will have a different vin on your chassis. Does he have the title for the cab? Can get ugly in some states when mixing parts that have the vin attached. Moving the vin tag from one to the other is not allowed most everywhere.

I would look closely at the cab corners and rockers where there looks to be rot and make sure there is nothing hiding under filler.

Don't want to encourage "illegal" activities but you can remove the dash and gauge cluster in the cab and grind off the backsides of the rivets holding the vin tag on. Swap tags without evidence of foul play and simplify the registration process. We're all honest guys here.

I'm in Florida. You can do better than that. You should be able to get a whole truck for that price. Got my practically rust free truck for less than that and drove it home. Saw one on Craigslist for $500 missing engine and trans.

I don't see why people make such a big deal about the frame VIN. It's just a frame, people change frames all the time and the DMV only uses the cab VIN. Older cars use the engine block number and people don't hesitate to swap engines on those.

Keep in mind a C30 will be a different weight class so registration will be more expensive.

Check with police in your area,changing a Vin is only legal here when it's done legally.
mine could have be seized/towed off the roadside,as is where is,with what evers in it.

Thanks for all of the input guys. I am not worried about the vin issue I already have all of that worked out. I'm just trying to see if a 2WD manual cab will work with a K10 frame with out swapping floor pans and if that is a good deal for the cab and gear

He's not changing the VIN, basically he's changing the frame. New cars have the VIN stamped on everything, fenders, doors, etc. Nobody is scared to change a fender. The frame is the same thing, just a part.

In ME they go by the vin on the frame. You never know what kind of cab people will try to put on them like a Caddy, Camaro, LUV etc. Anyway, if you don't want to cut the floor in that C30 you can just use a 2" body lift to make it clear. Some people are awesome welders and don't mind welding in a bolt in trans hump. I have never had much luck fixing anything through that hole.

I doubt that. You can't see the frame VIN. The DMV goes by the VIN plate, the VIN you can see easily without pulling the cab. A Cadillac, Camaro, Luv, etc. has a body VIN plate.

most understand they need "parts swapping".

That cab will go directly on your 4wd frame since that cab has the high hump because it is a 4sp.
