3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
Where do I attach them? I thought the two floor points and the front roll cage. on another forum someone said I shouldn't do that (belts should be attached to the same thing ie the frame) but thinking about it. If we are in a sitch where the roll cage is shearing away and ridding me of my third fastening point I think I am pretty much D.E.A.D anyway. This is a mall crawler / classic car - not going anywhere off road beyond a beach or dirt road. any thoughts? How have other people attached 3 point belts with a top off using the original seats?

The easiest thing to do is swap in late model seats that have the integral 3-point belts. Personally I think only the original buckets look right, so I'd probably make do with lap belts.

Re: 3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
Many race cars mount seatbelts to the roll cage. Of course that cage is built more solid than anything else in the car. It's part of the frame, and pretty much every part of the body can be ripped away and the driver will still be in the car.
If you mount to the roll bar it needs to be a solid roll bar, preferably attached to the frame. If you do a light roll over, and the roll bar folds into the back seat, it's going to pull that seat belt into you.

Do the factory bars do that and fold back, even with the Y at the bottom and the two separate bolting plates on each side? Sounds like I need to get a rear bat also then.

Are you installing the 3 point because you want it or what I know 73-74 k5s came with just lap belts maybe 75 as well and I agree unless you have full cage I would not attach the seat belts to it. Where the factory rollbar mounts is at a seam in the body tub in a rollover it could easily rip that seam letting the bar fold back.

Re: 3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
So if the incident is such that the roll bar collapses haven't I got more to worry about than that? In honesty this is more about making the wife FEEL safe than anything else. This will be a total mall crawler i fear. When the hard top is on I can attach the 3rd point to the socket that is there.

Re: 3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
I converted my '88 to a full convertible and was in the same boat as you. No place to attach the belt. I wanted to reuse the '88 belts. So, I cut and modified the factory '75 roll bar to fit the floor of the '88.
The factory bolted the bar to the top area of the 1/4 panel. I removed that mount and used it as my seat belt mount. Looks fairly sanitary and factory. You can easily make a mount out of some flat stock and a nut. To keep the bar from folding back in a roll-over as others have mentioned, I bolted the bar to the top area of the 1/4 panel like the OE. If that bar is going to fold back, it's going to have to sheer or tear the floor mounts and where I mounted it to the 1/4. If that all happens, I'm prolly dead anyway... I feel safe mounting them this way. Wish I had some pics for you, but it's pretty self explanatory. Just mount whatever bar you get to the top of the 1/4s and in my opinion you will be good. Brian |

Re: 3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
DOH Why didn't I think of that. The roll bar does bolt to the top of the quarter panel and I can use that mounting point to create some form of attachment. i really am a goofball sometimes, if i had the truck present to look at it would be easier i guess to remember this sort of stuff but it's in the shop and SLOOOW because the bodywork guy is doing me a favor in spare time.

Re: 3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
on my 86 which i made a full vert(74 donor),as well as 2wd,i swapped in a front seat from a 01 dodge ram.they seat is awesome,as it has a huge fold down console/jump seat, and has built in seat belts intergrated in the seats themselves

Do you have any pics of the interior??? How did the dodge front seat fasten in and what if any customization do you have to do to get it fitted.

Re: 3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
The snag is on a truck that was built as a convertible there are rocker boxes under each side which cause a bit of an issue for bolting seats in if you're not using the original sockets.

Re: 3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
I would use the roll bar and make sure the roll bar is fastened strongly. The roll bar is the safety device to save your life in case of a roll over. Not saying they won't crush, but why do you thing roll bars are used in vehicles with a unified steel top? Because it prevents that from crushing down. Factory seat belts are fastened to reinforced sheet metal, not the frame.

Re: 3 point seat belts. 75 blazer with top off.
The roll bar is factory so it is 4 point and each point has 3 bolts fastening it down. I think I need to wait until I have the truck back and can check the angles of the belt dependent upon various fastening points.
