rear end markings
Can anyone tell me what this means. It is on the center section on the rear end. Truck is a 70 short step. Thanks

Just part of the casting info. Obviously General Motors and the 55 could be an alloy code or an internal date code or foundry code.
Doesn't mean anything. You can find stamped numbers on the passenger axle tube on the top side near the center section which do mean something, although many times what they book says doesn't jive with what you have IME. If you are trying to figure out gear ratio and if you have a limited slip, the truck probably needs a gear oil change so your best bet is pull the cover and kill two birds.
