twistedchevys build
Everyone has a new years eveloution for things such as eating health to drinking less or being more active to whatever. Mine was buying a burn before 2016
So 3 days in I found one: 1972 Chevrolet c20 suburban, SBC 350, turbo 350, factory a/c front and rear, 50gal fuel tank, late model wheels and rear bumper. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It's missing all of the a/c parts under the hood, pass rocker panel has some rust and needs replaced along with some rust in the rear driver quarter that can be fixed. Was missing the rear hatch win do but my dad had a spare. Jan4 swapped ignitions with one with a key, charged the battery and started it up after sitting for 2yrs. This weekend I'll be replacing the dry rotted tires, porportioning valve, plugs and wires. Also will be installing an electric choke on my Manuel choke edelbrock carb. Also been trying to sort through the hacked wires from the previous owner. |

Re: twistedchevys build
Thanks, I love them, I have to replaced all the seals on them though and some of the lenses are cracked so I'm going to have to basically buy new ones.

Re: twistedchevys build
01/03/15
Bought it 01/04/15 changed ignition, charged battery, changed fuel filter, lubed all hinges, cleaned out most interior and replaced front calipers and front brakes 01/10/15 Removed glove box, glove box door, and stereo. Chased down both additional switches on gauge cluster(driver side has been spliced into rear ac wires, pass side goes to throttle pedal for poor man choke) 01/11/15 replaced rear hatch(upper portion) 01/17/15 Painted battery box and underside of hood. Taped up wires going to pass headlight and marker light. Replaced distributer thing 01/18/15 installed electric choke, new tires and carb adapter. replaced spark plugs, valve cover breather and proportioning valve. TOOK ON FIRST TEST DRIVE temp gauge doesn't work, amp gauge doesn't work, thermostat should be replaced, radiator cap leaks, used proportioning valve is bad, speedo gear is wrong, steering column out of adjustment, exhaust rattles by gas tank, needs wipers and pass headlight bad. 01/24/15 replaced proportioning valve, brake master cylinder and gauge cluster. Removed manual throttle cable, broken dash pad, broken a/c vent hoses and defrost hoses. Chased loose wires down. 01/25/15 replaced external regulated alternator for an internal regulated alternator(used), wipers and installed new thermostat gasket. installed window crank handles on rear driver, rear passenger and front passenger. Painted alt bracket and air cleaner lid. -test drove: engine head temp doesn't go above 160*F, carb needs rebuild and timing needs adjustment(bucks, pops and lags at full acceleration). Fuel gauge stuck past full, temp gauge doesn't work and amp gauge doesn't work. 01/31/15 *ignition module good. replaced ignition coil and ignition condenser. Added 1quart of tranny fluid. -drove on freeway, speedo is off need 1.3 multiplayer. Replacement of ignition coil caused bucking to disappear at full acceleration. |

Sounds like you are moving right along. Where's the pictures???? Did it originally have a three hole cluster? If you changed it from a three hole to the gauge cluster, or someone before you converted it that may be why the gauges aren't working. The under dash wire loom is different for the two. Just a thought. LockDoc

Re: twistedchevys build
Drove the burb today, after parking it wouldn't start again, so the only thing left to be wrong is the pick up coil. Also found a 1.2 speedo multiplayer. But after cruising a couple of miles off the freeway, came to a stop at a light. Light turned green and started accelerating and heard an awful knock. Babied it a mile home, sounds like a spun bearing or bent rod. Only hear it when accelerating on a load. I guess the engine swap will becoming sooner. Nothing special, just a rebuilt 350.
Once my dad gets settled at his new shop we will tow the burb over and swap engines. While swapping engines I'm going to try and power was the engine bay, paint and clean up the wiring. |

Re: twistedchevys build
02/13/15
Had burb towed to the shop, pulled motor 02/14/15 sorted through some engine bay wiring and rerouted some wires. Installed motor, headers, p/s, alt, fan, radiator and aftermarket oil, p/s, alt, fan, radiator and aftermarket oil, volt and temp gauge under climate controls. 02/15/15 Welded exhaust to headers. started engine and broke cam in. Drove burb around. Need to rebuild carb. 02/16/15 Painted outside of hatch, tail light housings and reverse light housings. The hatch after paint, nothing fancy yo can see where the hatch was rusting and where the paint was, but it looks much better ![]() The reverse light housings before ![]() And the tail light housings 1 before and 1 after 1coat, these got 3 coats ![]() I think I will try and get some LED bulbs for everything outside eventually

Re: twistedchevys build
I'm curious about the 50 gallon gas tank? Is it dual or what has been added?

Re: twistedchevys build
After reading a lot it may actually be a 45gal tank that was a factory option, I have found a lot of other guys on here that have the same tank.

Re: twistedchevys build
My dad found the fuel gauge wire hanging under the dash, he plugged it into the fuse block and my gauge started working. So I drove it around today for about 50 mile with no problems

Re: twistedchevys build
Been just driving my burb around and enjoying it, cut my dash up this weekend for my new stereo that I am ordering
![]() Decided to put the stereo where the ash tray was, I don't smoke and don't let people smoke in my cars. ![]() I'm thinking about putting a cubby hole where the old stereo mounted, this is just a temp deck until the welding is all done

Re: twistedchevys build
I also got a complete set of doors and back panels out of my dads old 70suburban that he parted out a few years ago. Found them in his garage today, will eventually pull the fabric off the metal and clean and paint the metal panels to get rid of the plastic panels I have, and will use the old back panels as templates for some metal ones.

Re: twistedchevys build
Installed my new headlights and ballasts, also cleaned out the back and started painting the back. And set the rear panels in place to see what it would look like

Re: twistedchevys build
03/21/15
Pig tailed headlight harness to new harness, ran tach wire(found tach is for a v6), found door panel upper mounts for both front doors and third door(need to find fake door mount) and ran new ac/defrost hoses under dash 03/22/15 Welded cubby pocket into dash, and welded spoiler mounting holes up. 03/23/15 Installed door panel mounts So I need a new tach for a v8, a new volt gauge(hook 12v upland the gauge pegs max18v) and the clock doesn't work. So everything out of that camaro was bad. Go figure.

Re: twistedchevys build
The before and after cleaning up the panel mounts side by side
![]() 04/04/15 Pulled the fabric off the door panels ![]() Wire wheeled the panels ![]() Primed door panels with some kilz(primer blocker and sealer) ![]() 04/11/15 Painted door panels, installed new-to-me door mirrors. 04/13/15 Installed door panels ![]() 04/16/15 Ran power wire from battery through dash to solenoid then to fuse box 04/18/15 Installed carpet in rear, painted rear a/c housing, bypassed dash light wire(spade on back of fuse block was shorted out) and bypassed rear a/c fan switch(bad switch and power wire hacked ran new power wire off new fuse block). The rear a/c blower motor works awesome, on med I can feel air hitting the back of my head in the driver seat. Only pic I have right now is the before of the rear a/c cover ![]() And some pics of my dads and my suburban ![]() ![]()
