Another fuel tank thread

Hi, all. Been reading the thread on 1969 Camaro fuel tanks, which was started by 67slider back in 2010. I'm wondering if anyone has done this installation on a '47 - '54? Another idea I have is to install a side tank betwwen the right frame rail and driveshaft, so the spare tire space can be saved. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks.

Re: Another fuel tank thread

The tank on the right side is stock for 47, 48 and I am pretty sure all 47/54panel trucks. You should be able to do that quite easily with a replacement tank and the proper brackets or fit a custom tank in that spot.

The only issue is going to be exhaust pipes if you are running a V8 as you will have to run both pipes down the right side. Not a big deal but some guys tend to think it is an issue.

When I ran my stock 48 tank the only real issue I had with it is that a lot of the current gas pumps pump the gas faster than the filler wanted to take it and you have to be really careful about getting gas on nicely painted running boards. One just learns to not get in a hurry filling the tank.
