Nice 4x4 on ebay...but bring your wallet

This auction for another 'high end' truck ($50k+) is almost up and there is still a chance to get it.
Very nice, truck...nice restoration, although I'm not a big fan of black trucks in these particular years...but a boatload of dough to get it.
Definitely for those wanting to turn the key and go.
All Good

Re: Nice 4x4 on ebay...but bring your wallet

There is nothing in my wallet that I could bring that would take care of that!

What a beauty! I'd like to see the SPID, if she was truly a shorty 4x4 that's a rare truck!

Yeah...I never get that when they say 'all stock' then start listing everything that isn't stock...and there is a boatload of stuff on this truck that isn't stock....not that it isn't a nice truck tho'.
Regardless, why not say 'modified', or 'nicely modified' or something along those lines.
I guess for me it sets up a minor distrust of the seller on some levels....sort of like dealing with a stereotypical used car salesman...rarely a good thing.
My two bits.

$59,900 for a bone stock 4x4 truck? Not in my lifetime. Lots of wishful thinkers selling on e-bay. That's a 15-20k truck max.

Ebay is to the Internet... what Barrett-Jackson is to Auctions.
Rising the value of everybody's driveway quality vehicles everywhere.

But, that is a good looking truck.

This seller is semi-local to me. Although over priced, he has a lot of nice classic vehicles. I can only assume his clientele are older folks with money that want a car, "just like they used to have."

Anyone will give $15k all day every day, for a vehicle that can command a $60k asking price.

That's pretty much a no-brainer.

Re: Nice 4x4 on ebay...but bring your wallet

"Practically Flawless"? I'm not going to pick on anyone's truck in a hurtful way, so I'll leave it at the transmission pan and rear end cover.

That truck is $18,000 all day long. I've been to enough auctions and read enough copies of AutaBuy (which is full of our trucks lately) to know that.

If you want to ask $25,000 for one of these trucks it better be reasonably rare and desirable truck in about this condition.

If you want to ask $35,000 for one of these trucks it better be a very rare and desirable truck in about this condition, but returned to stock with all numbers matching and date coded and documentation. And by "very rare" I mean short box block or 4x4 with buckets, air, good color, etc.

If you want to ask $40,000 for one of these trucks it better be everything the $35K truck was but everything needs to be right. The bed and cab trim need to align. All stainless polished out perfectly, all chrome fresh, block-sanded, correct hub caps (not 73s on a 72 and certainly no square-body rally wheels).

If you want to ask $50,000 for one of these trucks I'm not sure what it would have to be because I've never seen one trade at that price.

If you want to ask $60,000 for one of these trucks... Bwaaa haaa ha. Ha.

Pretty truck. Silly price.

A super nice truck but I spotted several things that are not correct or correct for for 71. As far as the price goes who's to say what realistic? dont forget BJ is going on right now! I remember seeing a 67 patina truck sell for 34K about a year ago on epay.

Okay, I'll admit, flawless is to one person, what it isn't to another. It isn't numbers matching flawless, but as far as a restoration, it's pretty darn close. I dare anyone to try to put together something of that quality for anythig close to 15, 20 even $25,000. I don't think it can be done. And I don't mean do it yourself. Because we all don't have the skills or the tools to do so. Start getting quotes and I'm sure you'll be really surprised. If you've put one together, I'm sure you wouldn't. I don't have 60 thousand and don't think I'd ever pay that much for a new truck, but I'm sure that some people do and would. Look at their show room. I don't think they are just some idiot trying to find gold. I think that they must have a close idea of what they can get for that truck.

Another way to think of this, is a house. You can go buy a house for say $200,000. or you can build it yourself for $100,000. Not everyone has the know how to build a house though. In fact most don't, so they pay a lot extra for it. Then some people want to live in a certain subdivision, so they pay even more for that. Now maybe they are up to $300,000 for a house that I could build in the country for $100,000.

It seems like this keeps happening over and over. People have to trash a listing because they think its worth far less than they are asking. I say, let them ask what they may. Good luck to them if they get it. And if they can get $60,000 for that truck and it's an $18,000 truck all day long, I suggest you start buying them for $18,000 and start reselling. You'd make a fortune in no time.

I'll give you 3:1 odds the buyer had a skull on his t-shirt. Look at the AC duct on the driver's side! And a glass fuel filter!!!

Nice truck from the photos though. I guess what we've learned is mostly that I'm cheap.

I'm surprised highly modified trucks sell. But then I'm surprised when "pro touring" Camaros sell for more than I bought my fully restored RS/SS 396 for. Oh yeah, 'cus I'm cheap :-)

But that's the fallacy. What it cost to build doesn't usually determine what it sells for.

I understand this concept -very- well. I'm spending likely $60K plus my labor on a -true- rotisserie, every nut-and-bolt restoration. On a 3/4T Longhorn. Which will be worth at best 1/3 of that no matter how nicely I do it.

Because, as I said, what you spend doesn't mean a lot with respect to what it sells for. A big factor on a car that would -otherwise- command a good price. But not on a 318 'cuda or a Longhorn GMC.

Buy them. Build them. Drive them. Never sell them. That's what I've learned. Just keep adding storage.

That's Barrett Jackson for ya. Lots of beautiful cars there but most everyone of them go for much higher than I could dream of paying. When a huge room full of stuffed wallets get together to bid on old cars prices are gonna get inflated... In some cases seriously inflated. I'm anxious to see what the future liner goes for.
I guess at the end of the day the value is between the buyer and seller.

It also requires that you have TWO people there that don't know the market prices or don't care about the prices because they want -that- truck and are willing to ignore what they pay. Then it can run away.

all i see is a $60K liability rear brake hose. All this attention to detail and you lay a brake line on an exhaust? WTF!

The thing went for over $4 million, but that is one case where I think the large price tag was worth it. 100% of the hammer price went to helping veterans AND it also kicked off a session of people just donating anywhere from $20k up to $100k, to the same veterans help

It has been re-listed. You can ask what ever you want as evidenced by plenty of what's
it worth posts. But the real value is what you can get someone to give you for it. These trucks aren't rare. If they were there wouldn't be all the companies that there are offering replacement parts.

I couldn't agree more. I'm fascinated with the future liners and in all honesty if I had the cash and my finances were set for life id pay what ever it took to own one just because they are such beautiful part of American auto history. Not to mention that our military needs our support every day and events like this bless them in ways we can't imagine.
