Know anything about this A/C?

This A/C unit came in my 67. The guy I bought the truck from said it was a factory air conditioner, but it is unlike anything else I have seen. In case the pictures are not clear, the unit is mounted in the glovebox and has its own vents so it is a self contained unit. Everything under the hood looks normal ( compressor, condenser, etc.). At this point I do not plan on using it, but keep it as a cool nastalgia thing and would like to know more about it.

Never seen one mounted in the glovebox but it looks like the underdash unit you could get from the dealership to add A/C. You could install it or you could pay the dealership to do it.

Re: Know anything about this A/C?

Thanks JJR. Would there be any value to restoring it?

Strictly GUESSING here, but I'd think that could be a factory rear air unit or a dealer add-on "knee-knocker" like mentioned, crammed in the glove box.

I'd be surprised if a dealer would cram it in a glove box, but I've been surprised before. Anyone can get that plug to push into where the lock would have been, and I notice it's not painted and the unit does not fit very well with gaps and such.

BTW, you say everything looks factory under the hood. Does it have an extra evaporator core under there attached to the firewall?
