What is this brake part?
I was working on the rear drum brakes today and discovered this spring is broken. I can't find it online or in my parts books. Anybody know the name or part number for it? It is on a 1971 Chevy C-10.

Re: What is this brake part?
That sucker keeps the spreader from rattling around. You should be able to get s set at the parts store

Re: What is this brake part?
Thanks for the responses! This forum is great!
So if it just keeps things from rattling around, then one loop broken off is not a big deal as the spring does not compress or have a load on it. Am I correct in my logic or should I go get a new part? |

Re: What is this brake part?
Until another chunck breaks off and jambs something up. You can get a set with new springs, the little pins and nuts and other parts for $10/15. Brakes are important.

Re: What is this brake part?
I agree. If the springs are so old that a coil broke off, then 12.00 bucks at NAPA and a couple hours of your time is well worth it

Re: What is this brake part?
Replace it. But it doesn't come with the rear brake hardware kit. At least it didn't come with mine when I got it last week from O'reilly.
