57 chevy 3100 power steering help
I am putting in power steering in my 57 Chevy 3100. It has the original 235 3 speed on the column. Found a kit in Classic Parts.com with everything (supposedly) that I will need other than a pump, pump bracket and reservoir. Do you have any suggestions on what may have worked for you for those items and what else I may need to have on hand before I dig in?

Re: 57 chevy 3100 power steering help
before you buy it post the link! you have options other than the kit from classic parts. do some internet searches and the HAMB is good place to start, STOVEBOLT.COM great site. do lots of homework before you spend your dough. ask guys to post some horror stories because all classic parts and similar companies want is to sell parts and lots have very poor customer support. they don't make the kits they just sell them.

This guy is asking about another system. It was posted in the suspension forum. Here's the link to his post. He's asking about a 58 to 59 truck, but the parts may be the same...Jim http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=657147

Re: 57 chevy 3100 power steering help
I agree with 55dude. The engineer in me always is looking for the most elegant solutions. I prefer to use tested GM parts, when possible. Many later model Chevy sixes had ps and ac. GM was very good about designing parts to fit a variety of platforms over lots of years. I have not looked at the six ps but bet you can find a setup off of a 60's 235, 250 or 292 that will work or is easily adapted. The HAMB guys are very good at it. A lot of the after market stuff was designed after something a guy in a garage figured out.

Re: 57 chevy 3100 power steering help
Hey born57, There's a member on this forum who has used the No Limit setup on his 55 3200. Try JR25. I don't know if he's done with his truck yet but its running a really nice 6 inliner with a 5 speed. I think he is in the service and on duty somewhere but might be following this forum. Its been awhile since his last post.
