Two questions on auxiliary gas tank

While removing the bed, a paint/body guy poked a hole in the aux tank mounted just behind cab, in front of rear wheel. While the bed was off he brazed the hole, but it still weeps enough to be a problem.

1. This tank is wider at the top to fit the side panel contour and am wondering if there is enough clearance between the body and frame to drop it out - without removing the bed. Anyone know how these "not-square" aux tanks were installed? Maybe remove the rear wheel and it would slip out toward the back?

2. Is there a GOOD (meaning "really works well") product that would seal a small weep leak when applied to the outside of a gas tank?

I have used a product called "Seal All" on gas tanks many times. It does a fantastic job! I even used it on a steady drip before. It comes in a yellow tube with red letters. I will try and find a picture.

OEM aux tank? I've dropped aftermarket "Travel Tanks" without removing the bed and these are more-or-less the same shape as the OEM 71-72 aux tank.

DeadheadNM, thanks. Don't yet know if it is an OEM tank - but am going to try to find out. This tank has rounded/contoured edges and does widen as it rises - and longitudinally is narrower at the back end to fit around the spring aspects. I sure hope it will drop down/out.

Any other thoughts out there?

My tank is definitely an aftermarket "Travel Tanks" brand that is much wider on the top than the bottom. Mocking up a new steel floor, 8-foot bed I dropped the tank out of the running/driving truck, did my mock-up, and put it back in the truck.

The one I had was leaking about 20 years ago. The shop I took it to said that because it is made of plate steel and not sheet metal like OEM tanks, it was very repairable. I've used it ever since then with no further issues.

DeadheadNM, thanks for the photos - mine does not look like the steel plate tanks with flat panels. It is sheet metal with rounded edges and a seam - and definitely widens as it rises. It is hung on two steel straps with long bolts dropping from the bed.

The truck build sheet lists the "fuel tank system" as A-H-O. Anyone know about that?

Am thinking that this must be an aftermarket tank. Am looking for the fuel tank sealer picture by gipper - anyone have any success with another type/brand?

How far from ABQ are you? I have a pair of plate steel dealer installed travel tanks sitting at my house in ABQ that I'll likely never use let alone up here in MT. You could ditch your existing tank.
