Anybody Running a Tuff Country 2" EZ Ride Lift?

Hi Guys,

Short version: Does anybody out there have a Tough Country 2" EZ Ride Lift on their 69-72 Sub?

I need new springs and the product seems reputable, but I have questions about post-install ride quality.

My sub is 100% stock, with original springs and rides comfortably at present. Will this product change handling dynamics greatly?

Please let me know your thoughts if you're running this exact application and can shed some light on what I can expect.

Long Story: I am interested in a mild lift because of how I use my Sub (remote camping where I can't afford to get hung up from long wheel base/ground clearance issues). I don't want to go over 3 inches of lift, because I don't want to have to alter steering and drive-train geometry. I would like to maintain a reasonable ride quality because I also drive the Sub around town. I have looked at a local spring shop that can make some custom springs that they claim to perform better than stock (http://www.atlassuspension.com/gmc-c...erfomance.html), however, they are $1,465 before new shocks. On the other hand, I found a Tuff Country 2" Suspension EZ-Ride Kit, including new shocks, for $870. I know that the best solution is never cheap and the cheap solution is never best, but part of me says "leaf springs are leaf springs".

Thoughts?

I have it with their higher end gas shocks. I think the on road handling has improved although the ride can be a little harsh over road bumps.

Bigdav160, thanks for the reply. Did you opt for the rear blocks or rear springs?

Looks mean! Would you mind measuring from the center of the hub to the wheel well? Looks like you might even be able to get a 9.00 x 16 to fit

ive read that the ride is a bit roughter on these springs as i have a set sitting in my garage waiting to install on my 84 blazer, 3" lift. id like to hear from members too

Yes, all four springs. I did install about 1 1/2 of block to get the rear ride height up.
I believe the tire size is 33"x11.5"x16.5". Those are factory rims that, sometime in the past, were made wider.

If you're looking for a soft ride lift spring, look at Old Man Emu or Rubicon Express.

Problem is; neither of those vendors show anything for our trucks.

Not that they can't make them but it appears they are geared for imports and Jeeps

Sorry. I would have thought they were a full service. I really like the Rubicon express springs on my 95' YJ

If you really want a superior spring and got the $$$$. Deaver springs. Next in line, Off Road Design. And lastly, every one else. Pro-comp, skyjacker, rough country, etc,etc. I have no experience with the ORD springs but I bet they ride better than those ez rides.

9.00-16s will fit a stock truck.

It's 9.75" from the top of the tire to the fender lip.

The tires are 33x12.5x16.5 on a 10" wide rim.

Any possibility on getting the measurement from the center of the hub to the fender lip or from the hub to the top of the tire? The actual lift measurement vary quite a bit due to the difference in tire and rim measurements out there.

UPDATE: I ended up getting the Tuff Country 2" EZ Ride Lift with springs all around and it was installed yesterday. Ride is a bit stiffer, but better overall. As Bigdav160 mentioned, on road handling is good, but can be harsh over bumps/lumps. I expect the ride quality to improve as they break in.

been out of circulation for awhile as I am into a full resto on a '66 Mustang.
The burb looks better with the lift; almost a spitting image of my burb.
Have fun with it.

my 1971 k20 burb with 4" lift all springs, no blocks. its setting on 35" bfg's. I still have a long way to go on the truck, but its getting better everyday.
