Bed for my son

So my son turned 2 and had pretty much outgrown his crib (dude is a monster....he weighed 42lbs on his 2nd birthday). We go to the desert often and he is REALLY into buggies. I ended up scoring this frame for freeninetyfive (my favorite kind of deal) from a good friend of mine. Friends/family helped me load it onto my trailer to bring home so I could make a bed out of it.

Re: Bed for my son

I started by cutting the back off so that it would sit against the wall. The next thing I did was chop the roof off so that I could fit it through the door when I was finished. I ended up sleeving the tubing where I cut the roof off so I could slide it back on in his room. Next I whipped up some simple feet for it to rest on.

Re: Bed for my son

Finally, I painted it (he loves green) and cut some wood for the matress to lay on. As you can see from the last picture, he loves it. I am trying to figure out some lights now so that when he turns on the light switch for the room, the buggy has lights that turn on. I can't decide how to do it though (the whole 12 volt car light, 110 volts wall outlet dilema....).

HAHAHA!!! For some reason the Volvo keeps getting put at the bottom of the priority list. I need to get my butt in gear and finish it.

Re: Bed for my son

Thats really cool,
could prob use a small 120AC to 12VDC charger for some off road lights.
and use those remote controls like for Christmas lights (120VAC) small key chain remotes(looks car like) to turn lights off and on,
some of those plug in more then one item now,
we use them here every day (living room lamps)

Re: Bed for my son

you could also use halogen spot lights
there available in 110 volt and can jam them inside the reflector of some cheap offroad lights , they do get hot though
