Yeah I get burnt out, thats why I like having 2 projects going at once so when I get tried of one I just work on the other, sometime I just take a week off and sort out my thoughts and go back to the shop and hit it hard again!

Right now I would love to be able to work on my truck. About a year ago I replaced the bedsides at my buddies bodyshop, but I don't have the time to even go over there (It's about an hour away). I've finally decided to build a shed next to the other shed so I can at least work on it. I'm sure I will get burnt out at times, but right now I look at it as get away time to do something I want to do. With a full time job, two daughters, and working on a master's degree I need some enjoyment time. Now I've got to build that shed.

Yeah, now and then I get bummed out and pissed off at my project. I just stay away from it for awhile. Of course I am middle age (so some people say - 55) and maybe its easier to keep the course over a longer period of time. My project goal was about 3 years and I am on track with that.

special70gmc, man youv'e done some awesome work on that truck so far, you don't have a lack of ability, that can't be the problem, it takes time to do it right, you done great in on year, just put it under a tarp for a while, you'll get back to it, just put it out of site for a while, when you go back to it and pull the tarp off you'll get all boned again, its just a small set back, mine took 3yrs

I agree with you all, i get tired of my projects and have to take a break for a while. I have even taken as much as a month off with out even thinking of working on it. But i always get a "second wind" and end up twice as motivated to get it done.

I find if I bounce back and forth I can do thing's that require lot's of money on one and no money on the other. That and this board keep's me going during the rough time's.. Btw the truck look's like it has come a long way, and I am not talking about the yota!!!

Yup! I close the garage from time to time , just to get a rest from the "madness". my longhorn has been a long term project, purchased in Dec of 1984! there have been many other "toys" in the mix over that time, from daily drivers, to sand rails, Motorcycles , ect. .....the longhorn is the one i plan to keep tho after 19 yrs of "dreamin & skeamin", i do at times get very burned out on trucks. I have a few more mods on my thoughts, then just take the old booger apart for paint.... that old primered truck is still d@mn fun to drive tho, & gets a lot of "thumbs up". Take a break, you have done a lot in 1 yr......when you get back to it , you will be ready to go like he!! Good luck, crazyL

First off you should be proud of your progress,we all go thru the lack of motivation period. What I do is not force myself to do any work, cause this is suppose to be fun.Just cover it up or put it in the garage so you dont see it and when you feel like working on it you will happy to do so.Just my .02 cents worth.

I can't not work on mine--it's my daily driver, and I need it back on the road.

Still, there are times when I simply have to drive it for long periods of time without doing anything more than routine maintenance on it. Money, the job, and other interests conspire to keep me from tinkering for months at a stretch sometimes. then there are times like now, when it's a chassis w/ driveline here, a bare cab over there, front clip stashed near-by (with the gas tank, rear window, and frill guard leaning up against it), and the bed off across the road.

I havent touched my 1940 Chevy or my 67 in about a month. I get home from work and the last thing I wanna do is pick up another wrench and work on any vehicle. My 10 year old nephew buggs me about it, then he will start pulling tools out and we work on it together. Then he leaves as soon as I pull out the torches. Hey, you gotta start them young. By the way, he is going to be an awsome body a paint guy if he sticks with it. He wants to open a custom truck shop with me when he is old enough. We'll see about that. Which is more important, trucks or girls.

It is easy to get burnt out.....sometimes when i work on mine i will get frustrated.....then i just take a break and come back later. I have had the truck for almost 3 years now, and i still am obsessed with it, but i like driving it more than working on it . I would take a month or so off, go fishing or something, then come back with some fresh ideas and go to work again. Once you get that thing on the road, you will be very happy, especially with an LT-1 under the hood

I get burnt out at times too,,when things don't go together right,,or you keep tryng and trying to get it together,,,,or your missing a part or you can't find your certain wrench,,,you feel like saying the heck with it,,,,I guess we all need a break from time to time,,,,but like someone said,,when you get it on the road,it's worth it!!!

Don't worry about it, my parent thought I was crazy for buying my first blazer in High school. I bought it with out even knowing what a carb was. But if it wasn't for me working on that truck and figuring out how things worked I don't think I would have ever gone to school for engineering. and for the most part I really enjoy engineering. In fact if I hadn't gotten that truck I probaly would be going to school to become a lawer or something stupid and boring.

I get burnt out working on my truck too... It gets very frustrating when you try to do stuff and have someone tell you,you did it wrong, or did a poor job... Makes you feel like you shouldnt have done it at all. I get this alot from my dad, but he does help me out.... He has showed me how to do some stuff, the rest I have taught myself... It has gotten to the point that I think I might be painting it myself, because my dad hasnt showed an enthusiasm for the truck lately... Then I get my friends telling me that I am slacking it, and should have it done. When in reality, they have no clue to what it takes to put a truck together. Sorry, hehe, I am venting here.
But yeah, you have done alot of work on ur truck, you should be very proud, and the fact that you did it yourself that is awesome. My hats off to you. And the best advice I can give is just take some time off from the truck.

Lucky

Boy do I ever know what you're saying about everything! Sometimes it feels like you're going backwards on a project. My folks hate my truck, have absolutely 0 interest in it, and wish it wasn't here. The problem is, I don't have any interest in it right now either...LOL! Once I get a little money rolling in, I'm sure things will change, just go outside and poke it with a stick once in a while til you get some money saved up, then go blow it all on truck parts, and start working on it again! You've done more to your truck in the last year than I've done to mine in three and half years, so don't get down on yourself!

JayDubBlazer, i am in the same boat as you. I bought my truck when i was 16....but i thought i know alot about working on it when i didn't know squat....

Anyway, i figured it out, and because of it i got into engineering....i'm in my first semester of classes to major in mechanical engineering.....so getting the truck wasn't really a bad idea at all
