Where can I get a short block for a 89 2wd

Like title says looking to buy a short block. Where would be a good place and just a replacement motor not something fancy. Might add aluminum heads

Will a gm goodwrench long block fit my 89? Says it goes up to 85 though?

I think you have to have a 88-90. I could be wrong but memory serves that to me.

it will fit physically, but there will be some differences like rear main seal and roller cam provisions.

I'm confused what you're asking here. GM makes a long block for an 89 as well as 85. 2 totally different engines though.

If you want a GM long block I'd suggest visiting your local GM dealer

But that does NOT beat this price because with CED you will have to pay freight
So you get it here.

Don't ask them to match price because they only match delivered price which will be higher when you add freight.

You may be tempted to deal with unknown suppliers like those on Ebay or other sites. If those other sites are within 10%, it's not worth the risk of dealing with an unknown supplier. If there is ever a problem, you may never be able to get the unknown to fix it.

You never said what engine you had so I just assumed it was a 350 and I would highly suggest you not change to aluminum heads.

You're welcome

But how does the warranty work through Summit?

I think I will just out of curiosity. I'm a service advisor for a GM dealer and I don't know what I'd do if someone came in with a summit receipt asking for warranty repairs.

what's wrong with aluminum heads? as long as you put a quality gasket in place, vortec aluminum heads are a great add on.

Forget about the dissimilar expansion rates for the moment. Let's just deal with what you said about Vortec heads. He has earlier production that is NOT Vortec bolt pattern. In order for him to use Vortec heads, he would have to change the intake, throttle body, the entire fuel system and the ECM or switch to carburetor.

None of which he said he wanted to do.

The majority of the accessory system hangs off the heads and therefore the mounting holes need to be in the correct place. Who knows which will match what he needs.

Too many variables for me to recommend changing. Stick with the easy.

Then there is the expansion rate difference and the issue with getting gaskets to hold. None of this adds up to going thru the hassle. Sorry.

Couldn't you simply ask GM? After all the SB was made by them and you (kind of) work for them??????

Re: Where can I get a short block for a 89 2wd

yes, the intake would have to change, they do make tbi vortec intakes, however. so really it's not that big of a deal. bolt on 40hp and better cooling attributes of aluminum. seems like win win to me.

i HAVE done this many times with great results. not that big of a deal!
