1966 GMC 1 ton VIN question

Just got my "new" 1966 1ton delivered yesterday. Kudos to LP Services of NY!

Question on decoding the VIN plate. The VIN does not seen to follow the decoder. Maybe this would be listed as a medium duty?

The plate was on the top of the drivers door

GMC Truck. DD
2503 P F14434B

The truck is a retired fire support truck that was probable purchased as a cab and chassis, then converted by the outfitter. It has a Redding body on it.

Thanks

Here's a couple pictures of the old girl.

The fire department utility body is coming off. I have an 8' stepside bed for her right now.

Re: 1966 GMC 1 ton VIN question

Nice looking truck. Looks like you have the optional 18 Inch Wheels on there. Also noticed that someone removed the original Chrome V-6 Emblems on the hood (maybe to have more room for the lettering?).

I'm a big fan of 1-Ton trucks. Had a '64 C-30 Stake Body with a 6-292, 4-Speed. Ran that truck for over 9 years.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Nice score on that truck. I was one of the watchers on ebay. I just didn't see how I was going to get it home to Texas!

Re: 1966 GMC 1 ton VIN question

Thanks. It was the first time I purchased a vehicle on eBay or dealt with shipping. Shipping brokers SUCK!! I found a Owner/Operator in NY to ship it.

I wanted a hauler so she fit the bill.

I have a 1+ ton chevy cab and chassis that will be a donor for disc brakes and power steering. The old girl is a handful to turn at a standstill.

I'm searching high and low for a 9' bed. Looking at possibly lengthening an 8' Fleetside and adding stepside fenders for a dually bed. What do you thing my chances are of finding a 9' bed. I think I may have a better shot of growing a full head of hair.
