Bolt - on mods from van sourced parts

Scored myself a cheap 1990 G20 for the engine and a few other bits (sway bar being a high priority) but what I'd really like to know it how different the tilt column is from the existing one in my '79 C10?

Also, am I right in thinking that the stock van diff is a limited slip item?

Are there any other crafty little things worth swapping over?

Re: Bolt - on mods from van sourced parts

I have a '92 G20 and a '92 G1500. Pretty sure neither has a limited slip. I know the tilt is at least a little different, the gear indicator is on the column.

I like the serpentine setup on the van, and I thought about seeing how to use the newer style a/c compressor. I would also use the fuel injection, it's a simple system and all I need. If it has the 700R4 I would use that to. Thought about adapting the instrument cluster too.

The side marker lenses work for the 68-72 trucks and some vans have the radiator supports for the 67-72 trucks. Also some of the air cleaner risers don't have the PCV tube which can be used. How about van rallys?

The van rallys are 6.5 wide. Still work though.

I'm all over the rally's and will have them banded for extra girth

What about the Power steering components on the van?

The van rallys work good for the front and use 15x8 rallys for the back. The power steering pump should work with your box if it is an O ring style box. Any pictures of the van and engine bay? Also the license plate holder on the back bumper works with truck sport bumpers.

Be advised that the "old" GVan (ie, 1970 - 1996) is staggered in terms of series compared to what we are used to.

Said differently, a G20 is more like a C10, and a G30 is more like a C20, in terms of brakes, rotors, lug pattern, etc.

Does that make a G10 comparable to a K5?

(...not sure if serious...)

Technically, no - since the van is 2wd and the K5 is likely 4wd.

But - yes - it would be comparable to a "C5"....

G10 = "light" C10
G20 = C10 (5 lug wheels)
G30 = 8 lug wheels

The cluster would be a good idea - the existing '79 one is all warning lights and no read-outs. No a/c needed over here though - just a good screen demister

I can put up some engine bay pics - anything in particular you want to see?

I assume the bumpers can't be used which is a shame as the chrome is really good.

Anyone ever fitted van or camper bucket seats?

Re: Bolt - on mods from van sourced parts

Just looking to see if there are other engine accessories that can be used on trucks. The bumpers are basically the same, but the mounting bracket holes are different. I just put low back van seats in a 78 truck using 87 suburban seat tracks. They look and work great. Some van seats will be too "skinny" to look right in a truck.

Re: Bolt - on mods from van sourced parts

The engine oil filler and trans fluid dipsticks are elongated in the van it would seem.

Good info on the suburban frames but the hard part is finding a Suburban being broken for spares ('parted out' )
