Show me your 47-53 rear mounted gas tank.
Anyone with pictures of rear, behind axle mounted fuel tanks, please show and tell.
I'm interested in automotive brand and year tanks adapted to these trucks. I would much rather use a strap-mounted tank than a frame flange aftermarket tank. I have the TCI rear leaf spring kit installed and the '69 Camaro tank seems like it will be too wide. Also, show how you routed exhaust pipes, if you can. Thanks, in advance.

49 chevy car tank from "tanks"
stainless steel with stainless straps... set up for LS engine swap. actually it's a 53-54 chevy tank... Last edited by donandal; 02-05-2015 at 07:28 PM. Reason: wrong info |

Excellent workmanship! That is exactly the tank I just went out and measured for. Did you go with the 8,1/4" deep 16 gallon one?
Could you have left the original x-member in if you put the filler on the right side? Thanks for the pics.

Re: Show me your 47-53 rear mounted gas tank.
sorry, dont want to give bad info. I thought of using the 49 tank first.
I just checked and I actually went with the 1953-54 chevy extra capacity gas tank. it's the one in my pictures. Part number is 53-CG-ssx. from "Tanks" |

I got rid of the cross member to raise it up as high
as possible. Hangs too low for my taste otherwise. Also added a 2" x 4" 1/4" thick wall cross member behind the tank for some crash protection. |

Dave, I am curious how the side fill works on the Camaro tank. Any pic's?

Crash protection, as much as possible, is really smart, esp. in this modern "distracted" driving world.

Dave, thanks for the detailed pics. I've followed your thread on that truck. Fantastic work on a very challenging project.
crossfire84, thank you also. I don't know how I missed your build thread. I'll be watching your progress. Very nice Centerline wheels!
