Air Drafts Coming through firewall

Need some help on finding some replacement firewall grommets for a 1964 c10. Everywhere I have looked and searched seem to be for different years. I am getting some serious drafts through the firewall when I am driving and need to replace some of the grommets. Let me know if anyone has a good source or alternative solution.
thank you

Re: Air Drafts Coming through firewall

if you arent doing a nut and bolt restoration, this stuff works really really well for sealing up holes and existing grommets, even if they already have wires/stuff in them.

Re: Air Drafts Coming through firewall

If the tranny has been converted to an automatic and the clutch pedal assembly removed, that leaves a huge hole in the firewall. A 1.5" electrical box plug from the local hardware store will fill it perfectly if it needs to be capped off.

Re: Air Drafts Coming through firewall

I used the set from Brothers. They list it as fitting 60 to 66. I also used the box plug for the clutch hole. Mine also had a hole in each side that was for a plastic push pin for the stock fire wall insulation that was open. I got some to fit it at the auto parts store. I put a flood light in front of the truck with the hood open and went up under the dash at night and looked for light coming through. Looked like a starry night when I started. Now that the cab is sealed well the heater will run you out. I added a heater control valve to be able to adjust it.

Re: Air Drafts Coming through firewall

I did the same thing as Jimmy, and hung a drop light under the hood and closed it and then checked the firewall from the interior side. This way, you'll know which grommets to replace, and where to add silicone or filler panels.

I think this something that everybody needs to do. It makes a huge difference in noise and temperature control.

Re: Air Drafts Coming through firewall

Thanks all - i will look into the brothers kit and add the 3M caulk where needed. My thoughts were to start from the engine bay and then look from the interior as well.

Re: Air Drafts Coming through firewall

Yea thankfully it is only the fill hose and my bags are keeping the air that was already in them...when I go to fill it just leaks out. Off to truck supply tomorrow to find DOT air line

Re: Air Drafts Coming through firewall

the semi truck place here carries air line, ask for synflex, it is the common name for DOT line. dont trust zip ties to keep your airlines captured either, use adel clamps

oh and I hope your truck parts place is open on saturdays because here they arent and they even close at 2 on fridays, thats how sure they are about not being open saturday
