Replacing Power Windows Question...?? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

We have an '88 Suburban, and the guy who inspected it told us if we wanted to put a "winder" in one window, we would have to replace all 4 BECAUSE they are all linked together with wires. IS THIS TRUE???? One of the back windows quit working, needs new Motor, and beings that we want to eventually change all the windows to carefree "Winders", we wanted to replace them as they go bad--if we can. Anybody ever done this, what all is involved and where is the Most reasonable place to buy the "Winder parts" for this job? (LCM truck is sooooo expensive!)

If you know anything about electronics, and figure you can rewire some stuff, I'm sure there are wiring diagrams for your suburban online somewhere that can help you out...

Power windows are certainly nice, but they are a pain when they quit... I've gotta replace both the motors, replace all the switches, and rebuild all the moving parts in my truck's power windows, I haven't gotten around to it becuase those components are so expensive that I can't afford them on my limited income... (16 with a part time job...)

In most cases you can just unplug that certain window motor and the others will work fine, In rare cases they won't work properly due to a bad ground, this can also be wired around cheaply till you have replaced all the motors, and then it doesn't matter.

To change from power to manuel is fairly simple, Most fron doors were designed for power and non power application, and all rear doors were designed for power and non power aplication. All you need is the track and window regulator assembly for each door, then install it. Front doors are the same from 77-91 on suburbans, also pickup doors will work from77-87.
The rear side doors can only be found on suburban and crew cab from 77-91.

I should have all the parts for change over. If interested I will look and see. Thanks Tibbar

We have a 1978 Blazer, he wanted to use the winder parts from the front doors for the Suburban windows in the front. Alot of other projects going on right now, so this is on the back burner for now, but appreciate the help and advice!
