For Sale: 1966 Custom Camper Promotional Film "El Camino"

I have a factory-produced 16mm promotional film put out by General Motors (Chevrolet) in 1966 titled "El Camino" (The Road). It is a color travelogue film narrated by none other than Paul Harvey. Running time is approximately 27 minutes. This film features a new '66 Impala (pulling a camper/trailer), a new '66 El Camino (pulling a large motor boat) and-- more interestingly to us truck fans-- a new, loaded '66 Chevy Custom Camper pickup fully dressed out with a matching over-the-cab camper mounted in the bed. All three vehicles are red.

The film was produced by Galaxy Films out of Des Moines and is unlike other GM promo films that I've seen, all of which were intended for internal or dealer use. This film was clearly aimed at the end user, the recreational vehicle customer. It tells the story of three families traveling together through Mexico in three, different Chevrolet recreational vehicles and their sights and experiences along the way.

Due to age, the color of the film has turned slightly red (like most films of this age-- see still photo). This could be corrected when transferred to DVD. The film itself in in fine condition and it comes in its original metal container on a 12" reel ready to project or transfer to DVD.

This is a wonderful period piece of Chevrolet memorabilia. And if you enjoy old-school motor-camping, this is right up your alley. More importantly it's one of only two video documentation of the Custom Camper truck model that I've ever seen (the other being Impact '66). The Custom Camper was a fairly rare model and I can only imagine the promotional film of it is even more rare. Of course it's also of interest to fans of Impalas, El Caminos... and Paul Harvey! I don't know how many copies of this film were released by GM in '66 but I have never seen nor heard of another one and can find nothing online about it whatsoever.

Price = $85 + shipping.
