01' 4L80e w/159K...Rebuild? Is it even worth it?

I guess I lucked out, I found a 01' 4L80e 4x4 off a Burb for $135. That included the TC also. I had to drop it myself though.

The vehicle found its way to the scrap yard due to theft. I still have not dropped the pan because I haven't made up my mind on what to do.

Should I rebuild it after that kind of mileage or just run it like that? If I rebuild it, I'd like to run some upgraded frictions and metals with a TransGo HD2 kit.

When I say "I', that means I'll be rebuilding it in my garage, oh yeah and by the way.....I've never done this before. Haha! Hell I see it this way, I spend $135 on dumber sh!t, why not go at it myself and hopefully I learn something along the way.

Please let me know what you guys think or is my train of thought completely out of whack.

THANKS!!

I did new frictions metals and pump and shift kit on the 4L70E that's going in my project.
To get any deeper takes some special tools.
It was the first trans I've done and wasn't that bad.
If you're at all mechanically inclined I would think you can do it.

I would just do the HD2 and run it.

That's what all the transmissions behind my turbo rigs have been. Straight out the junkyard...clean it up, HD2, go kick ass.

Ok cool, I think it'll all be decided when I pull the pan and I see what It all looks like. Anyone have an idea of what's a good rebuild kit? TCI, Hughes, etc. etc....
