wheels with clips for hubcaps, do you throw them out?

Everyones looking for hubcaps for nub wheels that work with disk brake setups. Do you throw out your original wheels with clips?

Re: wheels with clips for hubcaps, do you throw them out?

I did save a set of original 64 split rims with clips and caps, but on the last crusher run I got rid of all the 6 lug 16's, all the clip style 15 and 16 six lugs, and the 16.5, and split 16 3/4 ton wheels...
no use for them, and no one was asking for them either..
of course some of that stuff came in again on some of the new trucks, so I will have to get rid of them again.

shipping for wheels might be cost prohibitive... the 15X8 6 lugs I ordered cost $50 each to ship... kinda hard to make a profit and give someone a good deal with that cost for shipping.

No kidding? You dumped some 16" six lug bump wheels? I recently paid a handsome rate for a set. You (I) just never see those.

Yeah, gotta say I've been hunting for 1960 1961 clip style 6 lug 15s , 16s and 17.5s . Split or lock ring wheels are even being searched for although they need to be clean of rust.

I would just about drive to Montana for a set of 16" OEM wheels.. I could stop at the Judith Gap Mercantile and have the best milk shake on earth.. Very tempting.

well we can only hope they were generic wheels and not true 60-66 gm

I'll have to get some pics of the ones that are left and we can see what they are...the way these things come in they will have an assortment of 6 lug wheels on them of unknown pedigree..

I've got five of them that came on/with my 65. I scored a set of correct nubs for it...

Pardon my being late to the party, but will I be able to keep my stock wheel and add disc brakes without modifying the wheels?

Never to late to ask a good question. Your wheels are 15" I assume.

If they're mid-60s, they won't fit discs. You can use the later 6 bolts from the early 70s to clear discs. Based on reading here, not personal experience (but advice here is usually correct...)

Are the disc wheels wider? Maybe check the width of yours.

I agree, its a little blurry, but pre '71 wheels have a rectangular shape ventilation slots while post '71 wheels have the more triangular shape ventilation slots. Also, pre '71 wheels have 3 nubs, while post '71 wheels have 2 large nubs and 2 smaller nubs. Wheels are one of the harder items to pin point what years they are, especially in the 50's to mid 60's. Andice, are those NOS Goodyear Rib Hi Milers on your GMC?

Re: wheels with clips for hubcaps, do you throw them out?

You know, I see the difference in the wheel in the center of the photo. I never noticed it before. These wheel were painted gold at the time that I acquired this truck. I will post a few more images (I don't have many) in an attempt to sort this all out.

Yes, the tries are Goodyear Traction Hi-Milers. They get the job done.

Factorystock: The tires are not NOS - they are new. I got them at Walmart in 2009. I ordered them on their website and picked them up a week later.
