Would you get a heart transplant from a 70 year old smoker who weighs 300 pounds? It's possible, but why would you want to?!

I haven't....seems to be S.O.P. to build up a classic truck or rod, and drop a SBC into it. Pretty rare indeed to see someone with an old Ford that is powered by a blue oval engine; let alone a GM product with a Ford powerplant. Personally, I've never seen it done, and with GM's great line of late 60's early 70's engines, I see no reason why someone would perform the swap. Don't hang me for blasphemy please.....

One word CAMMER.
Get me a 427 S.O.H.C. Ford big block, and I'll sit the caddy engine on the curb.
I'll be the first to say that most of Ford engenering is screwed up, and the car body designs look likethey engeners were sniffing glue.
However, some of the OLD Ford engines really did kick some seriouse ass.
Anyone familiar with the A/C Shelby Cobra?
How about the 64 Thunderbolt.
The 429 SCJ in a Galaxie (I think it was that body) took NASCAR titles left and right. (Back when stock car ment something close to a stock car)
There is nothing wrong with some of the Fords from yester-year.
Since the dawn of the autmotive era, they have all built junk, and they have all built good cars. It just amazes me that the bulk of G.M. fans can support a lonely AMC...but never a Ford.

My grandfather bought a '63 Mercury Monterey at the factory (he worked for shell, transporting cars at the Hazelwood plant in St. Louis). It had a 390/C4 in it, and that car pulled wood and boat trailers and ran the highways/interstates for many years/miles. Finally, thogu it was mechanically sound, my father ditched it when the floorboards started to rot out.

I was too young at the time, but I wish I still had that car.

I saw a '55 Chevy 210 in a magazine with a 514 Ford stroker in it.....proably a pretty fast car, but it would be better with a 502 Chevy

A freind of mine several years ago had a 72 longbed with a 289, last I heard it blew the motor (I figure it was donor rejection) and was parked in a field. He wont tell me where it is, because I always gave him grief about the furd engine so I sit with the knowledge that there is a fairly straight truck rotting in a field because I was a smarta$$ once to often.

Well you see I have this really nice totally rebuilt 302 with a rebuilt FMX transmission sitting in a car that I don't want and don't seem able to sell. I keep looking at it and wondering what to do with it. The logical thing I guess is to find a more desirable F**d body and move it into it but I really don't need another vehicle right now anyway. The other thought is to find a F**d pickup and put it in and maybe sell the Chevy since there are nice people like you who want them. I'm just reluctant because I have had the Chevy for so long and I know it would be difficult to replace if I changed my mind. So, the thought crossed my mind that I could put the 302 in the Chevy. I know it would be a bit of an odd duck with a F**d motor in it but it is a really nice motor that I spent a whole lot of money on and I just want to use it somewhere. A crazy idea I guess - it would be so much easier to swap in a 350 Chevy and the parts are so much cheaper.

Get yourself a 71/72 Ford F-100 Ranger XLT. They are pretty cool trucks once you look past the crappy front suspention and the stupid rust prone shock towers.
You can get them pretty cheap and hot rod it, you don't see many done up anymore.
I've always loved these...I was actually looking for a nice one when I stumbled into the chevy trucks and became addicted.
They actually look better in the longbed version. Here is a 71...and I don' tthink it is a ranger, nor XLT...but it is still kinda sharp.

It isn't really any more "wrong" than putting a GM motor in a Ford, Dodge, Volve, Jag or anything else.:p
I say......If ya got it, run it.

Funny thing is that I was at a local shop last week and there was a 55 Furd pickup and a 79( i beleive) 4X4 Furd pickup and BOTH were chevy'd out.

So that kinda tells you something about the drivetrain from Chevy.

I will say that I really miss my Dad old car, 1970 Mach 1 Mustang, that was a sweet car.

I still think that the reason why you see F**ds with Chevy engines is that the Chevy's are more plentiful and as a result the parts tend to be cheaper. I know when I was building the 302 I bought things like Edelbrock double roller timing chain set, cam kit, and a performer intake. The F**d parts were all significantly more expensive than if I had been buying the same parts for a Chevy. I don't think there is anything wrong with the F**d 302 engine. It has been around a long time and is often the swap of choice into things like old Jags simply because it is dimensionally a bit smaller than the Chevy engine.

Nevertheless, I doubt I will do it to the 68 and if I did, I would be careful not to make it non reversable. It is just so much more work to swap in a different make. It would be much simpler to swap in a Chevy engine and they are still readily obtainable.

I saw a 460 in a '40 Chevy pickup. It actually sounded tough. He liked doing his own tune-ups but had short arms.
