Vortec Bowtie heads build advice required
Hi all,
I would appreciate suggestions from the more experienced ( than me ) engine builders on this combination of parts for my re-build. The goal being a high torque daily driver in my 1972 longbed. Start with a rebuilt Vortec 330 hp short block. install Bowtie Small port ( Version 2 ) vortec heads. ( max lift 0.530 ) install Comp Cams X4260HR cam 210/214 with 0.474/.474 lift. ( 40 overlap ) install comp 1.6:1 rockers to increase lift to 0.506/0.506 install AFR Titan dual plane DPR composite intake. install rebuilt & tuned by JET, Quadrajet carb install 2 1/2 " Corvette rams head exhaust manifold, into a 3 1/2" single outlet. ( looking for a semi stock look. ) install Petronix HEI distributor. Max compression 9.5 ( for iron heads ) Diff ratio of 3.73 and a 2000 stall. |

Re: Vortec Bowtie heads build advice required
I am not all that on engine building (done a few over the decades) but "I know a guy".
There is a guy name Martin at Tick Performance that even being a young guy "Knows his SH*T on cams and how they react. Real helpful guy. Whether you buy an off the shelf cam or one of their custom grinds he might be able to steer you in a good direction. Sorry, bout all I got to offer.
