Wiper ground

On a 57 factory electric wiper setup, do I need to run a ground wire or will the mounting in factory brackets suffice or the ground?

Re: Wiper ground

That is a good question

I believe the units were internally grounded (grounded off the cab mount) but if your motor housing or mounts are rusted you may want to attach a ground wire to be sure.

Re: Wiper ground

Yes, wiper body grounds thru the bolts to the cab. rust or fresh paint will keep it from grounding. If painted chase the threads with a tap. If rusted add a ground wire from housing bolt to good bare metal.

Re: Wiper ground

Here are some pictures from my 55.2 wiper motor that I finished working on recently. It does need a ground wire if you have the rubber vibration grommets installed. Maybe the mounts changed by 57, I'm not sure but a ground wire wouldn't hurt.
