Auto to manual transmission swap
Hi, I own a 1970 c20 camper special, I am the second owner of the truck and it is completely original with a 350 small block, the th350 transmission just went out on it. And I am looking to get a new one put in, I always kind of wished the truck was a manual, so I am considering swapping to a manual. I didn't know if anyone would have any idea how much it would cost me or what transmission I should be looking at putting in, I do use the truck for towing.
Thanks, - Mike

Re: Auto to manual transmission swap
I did this on a friends 71 and it really easy. Your best bet is find a truck with a manual at a junk yard to pull the clutch/brake peddle assembly out of. Also you may or may not need the linkages based on if you stick with mechanical linkages or a hydraulic clutch. As far as the transmission there are lots of choices out there. I would do something with overdrive but my friend did a Richmond 5 speed with a 3.07 rear gear. He pulls a boat with it.

Re: Auto to manual transmission swap
In the cab I think most of the hardware is already in these trucks, add Clutch pedal, it slides in the brake pedal tube. Then you need the linkage, most parts I bought here off classifieds.
