I had to replace the cab on my truck due to rust. I found one that had been stored for 15 years that was in great shape. The only problem was it had a sunroof hole cut in (no sunroof though).
I got the bright idea of using a 90s Dodge Stealth sunroof since its a spoiler style and is metal- not glass. I wanted it to look as inconspicuous as possible and having it body color ought to do it. After a little cutting/ hacking/ welding it's in. The curve is a little sharper than the surrounding roof and I'm afraid it will be noticeable. I saved the center of the old roof just in case I need to patch it in.
What to you guys think- leave it or fill it in?

I think the cab lets in a ton of sunlight without a sunroof, and plenty of air as well. I'd fill it because the most inconspicuous sunroof is the one that isn't there! However, it doesn't look bad.

As far as sunroofs go, that's the cleanest one I've ever seen. Congratulations on your metalworking skills.

Having said that, I think sunroofs look out of place on our trucks. I would ditch it if it were my truck, but it's not; it's yours, and you have to decide what you like.

I would leave it. Nothing like having something most don't! It looks fine closed how does it look when open though maybe be the deciding factor!
I wished I had the skill you have to cutup a truck but I don't so show it off as you have here.

I think it look's clean. But you are going to spend alot of time and money to finish the truck. Now is the time to make the change if you are ever going to. You do not want to have it finished and then regret it and then make the change. If you have any reservations at all now then you should get it done. I know it is going to be alot of work. Good luck .

I will agree with this ^^^.
But, as stated later in another post, if you ever want to ditch it now's a great time to do it. It does look good. If it was mine, I would lose it. But it's not. It's yours, and your decision.
I think of sunroofs like this. There are only two types.
1. Leaking sunroofs.
2. Sunroofs getting ready to leak.

I really like it. As stated earlier, that's the cleanest one I've ever seen too. And as Andy mentioned we need more pictures! Sunroof open and the interior side too.

I wouldn't put a sunroof in but I would leave that. In fact, I might consider doing a sunroof like this. Why not? I really enjoyed sunroofs in my old vehicles when it was considered "ok". They seem to be "ok" in brand new $60k+ trucks. Doesn't look any more out of place than a '59 Impala dash, shaved drip rail, smoothed cowl, raised bed floor, humongous wheels, LS under the hood, or any other change many seem to like. It's just an extra seam in the top

Just a note on sun roofs. I have had three no 4 vehicles with them and not one has ever leaked! I have had 2 of them now for over 8 years and not one leak.

I had a 80 model Luv truck I put the sunroof in myself and it never leaked. I kept that truck 4 years and it sat outside all the time!
Just saying.

I bought a 72 long time ago which is now gone. previous owner installed a glass roof. I hated it. that being said yours looks entirely different. I would not undo all that work. I think it is best looking one I have ever seen.

That looks awesome! I have never seen another one like it. I would leave it.

One thought though... You said the curve is a little different. I can't really tell it, but I wonder if it would stand out more if it was a dark color like gloss black. You might want to stick with white or a light silver if the curve really is off.

Thanks for the feedback and compliments. I was sure the last pic was of it open- sorry about that. This is all the way open. This sunroof shouldn't leak into the cab. It has a gutter system with drains on all 4 corners. I haven't ran the drain tubes yet as I'm still trying to decide. I wouldn't mind the extra work to get rid of it because I'd rather have it right than be one of those ....... it's okay, but.....trucks.

Unless you are restoring the truck to bone stock then I would leave it. This isn't a mod you usually see and it looks like a great fit.

Of course, you have to realize that you're getting an opinion from someone who likes to drive around topless...

I like your sunroof because it slides back and it doesn't look like a run of the mill sunroof. It sure beats trying to sew up the big ol hole left by the previous owner. Nice work!

Yes. I buy vehicles often and I would pass on yours if it was for sale just because it had an aftermarket sunroof. Not saying it doesn't look good or anything else negative but I will pass on any vehicle, car or truck that has an aftermarket sunroof. Just one mans opinion.
