First carb rebuild
well I have been thinking I should rebuild my carb for a while now. Its just a Rochester 2 jet so I thought what the heck lets give it a shot. The accelerator pump didn't want to work right anyway.
while I was at it I decided I would pull the valve covers and address the oil leaks and replace the pcv and breather. I pulled the heater box a while back and just looped the heater hose so I decided I would plug the lines and get rid of the loop... all was going well until I went to remove the nipple on the water pump and it twisted off with next to no force... off to the parts store I went new water pump PCV Valve, breather, assortment of grommets, new air cleaner... all in all was not a bad way to spend a Saturday... I rebuilt the carb over the week after work. I can say after a spin around the block that the carb seems to be running great and no more bog when I punch it! what's a thread without a few pics. |

Well, you certainly are handy Mr Handy.... Seems like every time I try to rebuild a carb the truck never runs again...  .. Good job.. LockDoc

Good work. It feels good to do a project & have it turn out nice. I'm putting A/C in my 56. I hope it turns out well.
It seems you may need that heater, even in Florida. |

Cool deal.
 Great carbs when tuned right. Will never forget the look on that guy's face when I opened the hood on my '69 LeMans and he realized a 2-bbl Pontiac 350 beat his IROC z28 light to light earlier that evening.

Went for a drive this after noon to visit a friend, 60 mile round trip. The truck ran perfect. My Wife says it sounds better as well so I can't argue.
It makes me want to pick up a Qjet just to see what the fuss is about... My buddy has a Q on his 70 1 ton so I may get a chance to give it a go at some point. I'll be running a Holley on my 350 when I drop it in. I have a line on a 65 mustang and as of right now this 283 may go in it if all works out. I think it would be awesome to have a bright orange motor under the hood of a 65 coupe... if for nothing else but to piss everyone at the car show off. |
