Best engine stop leak

I had my truck in the garage for about a day and then discovered three drips on the floor. It is coming from the rear seal. Engine is an I-6 230 or 250 and runs quite nicely. I've got lots of other things to fix that take priority over this so just wondering if there is a good stop leak fix product that members have experience with that might work. Thanks.

I don't think that a stop leak additive will help with a rear seal. What you can do is go to a little heavier oil until you get around to replacing the seals and pan gasket.

I am using Boss cam oil (collector with the extra zinc) in it now and I think the grade is 15-40. This truck has probably sat for over 20 years so I am going to use something to try and soften the seals.

I put something in called Gold Eagle from the makers of Stabil and it reads that it is good for rear seal leaks. If not sealed in 200 miles then it is time for repairs, which should take me to a nice warm day in summer.

Nothing will help except dropping the pan and replacing the gaskets. But don't worry about a few drops. It'll be fine. lol

It's not a bad job to pull the pan and " roll " in a new rear seal. Don't be afraid of it. It's just nuts and bolts. Stop leak will not solve a rear seal issue. Good luck.

We shall see. I think it will work or at least slow it down considerably. I will report back with results after 200 miles.

Can the engine stay coupled to the transmission to get the pan off? I suppose it will have to be lifted somewhat.

I find any "stop leak" product is a short term fix that usually ends up doing more damage in the long run then it does to help. Buddy just found that out the hard way with using a stop leak for the cooling system. All this gunk is now in the block and radiator.

X2 I tried all that stuff yrs. ago to. kinda like tryen to come up with something to get my hair back ha. best thing I can do for a new to me motor is buy seals and gaskets and start replacen em. I get to see whats goin on in the valve train check timing chain and gears and pullen the pan lets me look at piston skirts and see what kind of stuff is in the pan.Sort of a bonding experience between you and the motor. Now having said that I still got a little leak at the rear main seal. But I ride Harleys

My I230 started leaking pretty good from the rear main seal after an oil change...I threw a couple quarts of 20/50 in there and it slowed it down considerably...just until I can get to it...

In worst case conditions, the main bearings have worn, allowed the crank to drop, and wear the rear main seal; can make a condition even beyond proper new-seal repair.

It's in her best interests to get better because if she crawls out from under that hood she's not going back in again.
