Re: Finned aluminum diff cover
Are you talking on the front differential on a 4wd? I had one and it was made to clear the "tie rod". The fins were scooped out across the middle. The drag link is the part between the pitman arm off the steering box and the steering arm on the knuckle.

Re: Finned aluminum diff cover
LOL I was excited when I found one to match my rear and my parts were all messed up. But yeah tie rod.
I just went and looked but you can never trust pics on the net, this one doesn't look "scooped" for clearance. I guess it wouldn't be hard to grind and polish it |

Re: Finned aluminum diff cover
Here is what I had to do. It was close but figures I didn't want to have to take it off later and re clearance it.
Here is what I started with.

Re: Finned aluminum diff cover
Here is what I ended with. I haven't taken a picture with it on the axle yet. I did get the sanding marks out as the picture below still shows them. Edit.. its a Dana 44 axle

Re: Finned aluminum diff cover
Figure the tie rod pretty much hides all that. It looks kinda trick having it such a snug fit. Hey, you're not the only one I've seen call the tie rod a drag link... pretty common. That's the only reason I corrected. I knew what you meant. I bet I can get a lot dumber than you can

Re: Finned aluminum diff cover
LOL When I find parts online that I want I get all sorts of messed up. The wife has to tell me to calm down more times than I can count.
When I was building my '48 I found a few parts I was looking for on Craigslist. The add said not to text or email to call only. I know what I read but texted and emailed anyway then called. When I got there the seller turned out to be one of my customers and asked why I texted and emailed. All I could say was "Where's the parts?". He laughs at me to this day. His wife always says "Where's the parts?" when I see her. |
