Will 01 suburban front diff work in my 05 Sierra?

I have a 05 gmc sierra with 3.42 gears, Ive found a good deal on a rear axle and front diff out of a 01 suburban with 3.73 gears. Im sure the rear axle will work but not sure about the front diff. Any info?

Re: Will 01 suburban front diff work in my 05 Sierra?

Don't be so sure the rear axle will work cause they won't. The truck carries a different axle assm than does the Tahoe,Suburban, Avalanche. The truck has a leaf sprung rear end where as the SUV's carry a coil sprung one. Now on the front diff the way to tell is go to car-part .com and used their fly down menu and put in you vehicle and then the vehicle you are trying to get the part out of. The Hollender Interchange System that they use will let you decide if the parts will work because the parts will show up for in the trucks for say 6 years if it fits back 6 years in what yards have them and how far they are from you. This is a very important tool in my work and I use it almost every day for either myself or for my customers. It also save many hours of phone time that I used to spend looking for parts part I could spend up to 6 hours on the phone looking for can be found at so and so's shop for X amount of dollars and I found that part in ten seconds.
Also the 99-04 rear's were different than the 05 to 07's because they went back to drum brakes in the model year 2005. Good luck Jim
