1967-1972 Chassis c10 question

Hey guys,

I am new to the thread

I bought what I thought was an all original 1972 c10 custom Shortbed, took it home and got a better look at it.

The vin that is stamped on the chassis indicated the chassis was from a 1968 C10 from Fremont. It does not match the Vin on the cab which the cab indicated its a 1972 c10. My question is, is there a difference between the 2 chassis? Is the 1968 chassis almost identical to the 1972 chassis? Same metal grade? Is 1 stronger then the other? The chassis has the trailing arms and it looks like they added on the disc brakes to the front, maybe from the old 72 chassis.

After I bought it I found out a little more about the truck.

The Model # is CE10934 and is 127 Wheel base.

Im learning that the cab came off of a long bed.

Is there a difference in size or anything from a short bed cab and a long bed cab?

This guy claims he didnt know but looks like I bought a Franken truck for $7500. However, I am glad its a shortbed frame and not a hacked and re-welded frame.

Any help or input would be appreciated.

First off welcome to the board!

My bet would be somebody built a SWB by getting a short frame and bed and swapping everything from a long bed over. The cabs are the same from SWB to LWB, also the chassis would have been almost identical from 68-72 and no wall thickness differences either.

It pays to look all that stuff over before money changes hands but in this case you came out ok.....as long as there are no title issues.
Much better with a swapped frame than a cut down one.

Luckily there is no title issues, Clean title in my name now with vin matching on title and cab cowl.

Seems these are getting harder and harder to find here in California. When I went to look there was 4 others looking at it.

I got under truck and made sure there was not any weld marks, at that time that was good enough for me.

Adding on a full ridetech and accuair suspension to it.

Lots of Franken trucks out there like this and you got lucky with a true SWB frame vs a cut down one. Since you looked under you would've seen a chopped frame section right away anyways and didn't so that's good lol Only thing now is for future buyers who check VINs will also know it's a LWB cab, so if you do ever sell make sure to disclose the '68 frame and '72 cab as some States require both to match, others don't care. A lot of guys don't realize what they are getting into and get screwed in those States. Enjoy the build now that you know what you've got!

There are a number of threads on titles/numbers here. My understanding is California titles to the frame. So if it wasn't "VIN verifed" upon transfer to you there could be a problem. So do your research.

I thought the title went with the Cab not the frame in CA?

Doesn't matter anyway, I am not going to poke the dragon and I do not plan on selling the truck.
