Grandpa,s 68 short big block

I finally got my grandfathers 68 into the shop. It has been in storage for about 15 years. After finding this site and renewing my interest in these trucks, I decided it is way past time to get this girl back on the road. It was originally ordered locally and driven by my grandfather until his death in 1975. My uncle drove it in the late 70,s and my cousin drove it to college and beyond in the 80's and early 90's. My father acquired the truck in the mid 90's but never really did any thing with it.
I don't know where my plans will lead, but at this point would like to mostly keep it stock. For now I just want to get it back on the road and drive it. I will post more pics in the coming days and try to post updates as I can.

Bryan.

I know, I don't like the wheels either. Replacements are one of the first things on the list.

Very cherry truck!

If grampa rocked them rims I would too! I'd take care of the cosmetics, make sure it runs like a top, and just drive it on Sundays. It's a family heirloom.

It's in fantastic condition! Look how shiny all the trim still is! Has it ever had any body work or paint? The paint and "typical rust prone areas" look great.

Rims were put on in the 80's, after grandpa was gone.

Right front fender has been replaced after an incident with a tree. Otherwise paint is original. No significant rust, just surface rust mostly under the hood from sitting in storage.

Re: Grandpa,s 68 short big block

More pictures. There is a lot of surface rust under the hood, mostly cosmetic and easy to deal with. 170,000 miles. Power steering has been added, I have the correct pump, reservoir and mounting brackets.
The cluster (non tach) has been cut for a clock. The bezel should be original but appears to be a 67 hold over with the choke text, cover plate and no ridge around the gauges. I'm guessing the fog lights are a dealer add on, the switch is in the choke knob hole. Has anybody seen this before? I did a search on fog lights and came up empty. I have a tach dash out of a 68 that is going in. The seats have been recovered. They are not correct, but the color is good and they will work for now.
Thank you every body for the complements. I cant wait to get it on the road this summer.
