My first shortened 1969 C10

I took on a project to shorten a longbox. There was a lot of great information on this forum so I decided to try. After I told a buddy what my plan was for the truck he purchased it for his work truck. This truck isn't going to be a show truck but I wanted to make it as nice as I could on a budget. Thanks to all the people posting great information! The truck has a 454 with a turbo 400. Its also an AC cab. Overall its been a fun project and its almost off to get a Hot Rod black paint job.

Do you have a pic of where you cut the frame?

Re: My first shortened 1969 C10

We have a local guy that shorten a ton of trucks. He's been doing metal work for 10+ years. He showed me that he does a 2" step notch right behind the cab. I figured if it worked for him, it will work for me. If I was taking the truck down to the frame then i would do the cut under the cab.

Nice. the reason I keep asken guys about this is cause it seems to me that we want the shortened bed to sit on the bed mounts after ya cut the frame. is that possible or am I asken to much.

Re: My first shortened 1969 C10

Just cut the 12" from under the cab or right behind, remove the first set of bed mounts and now the second set of bed mounts becomes the first. It all fits nicely.

Re: My first shortened 1969 C10

So after going over the other build threads it appears we do cut the frame twice. that makes sense. Here's another question? I know where I can get a gmc w/coil swb frame. will the shortened longbed line up or is it just as easy to shorten the longbed frame?

Re: My first shortened 1969 C10

Finished the paint job. I used hot rod flatz satin black. Not bad for my first paint job.

My mom always had the best advice. It was just a tad late. After a fall that involved blood, she'd say....."Careful!"
