1972 C10 - South Africa
Hey there guys... New on the forum and just thought I'd like to share in my excitement...
After months of searching over here, in the line of an old Chevy truck, I finally found what I was looking for... After searching on numerous sites and missing some good ones by a day or two at some point it seemed like it just wasn't going to happen.... Late one night, actually around this time in the morning for me(1.06am) I found an add on gumtree which had been posted 3 days prior... Having the luck I'd had I thought the truck would be gone but i emailed anyway... Later in the day I received a response saying, " not yet".. I replied asking for more pictures and they were sent... I loved it... A one owner, original paint and no real rust 72... Up country car nowhere near any sea, this truck was still all together, and the perfect candidate for my ultimate truck.... The problem being that high up country was getting it all the way over to me... After calling a couple transport companies with no luck, a friend of mine came up with a plan... Having family towards that area, we managed to convince a friend to pic it up, but would need my trailer. I hopped in the van and drove in that direction... Stayed over the night, had an awesome steak and drove home... 3 days later it arrived in the early hours of the morning and I was super happy... Over here you just don't see the trucks anymore and the condition as bad as it might seem to some its actually great... I have no reason to want to paint it so that's why it took so long to find one with "patina" vibes going.. What you guys call "honest"... Hahaha..... Anyway, here it is in my driveway..... Such a cool looking truck I think.... the original 327 in it and Runs a 3 speed column shift box... Doesn't help that the previous owner said "on the road", but the carb was on the front seat.. Haha... Anyway, that's it for tonight.. Will post up some more tomorrow of where it's at and going........ |

Great looking truck. Glad you got lucky on this one. I would like to see a picture of the tailgate. Looks like it is quite a bit different than the USA ones. to the board... LockDoc

Great find and Welcome to the site. How much is R25,000.00 in US dollars? Also, can we get some strait on pics of the tailgate?

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
Price is around $1800 dollars... That's what I paid as I got it for R22 000 eventually... Good price down here as the straight 6 versions with no papers and rust go for around $3200 and up...

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
Welcome to the board. Cool truck and I imagine they are hard to come by there! Always interesting to see the differences in export vehicles.
Is that the original tailgate? In the US 1968 was the last year of the 327 and the 307 took it's place. Do you have a picture of the SPID (information sticker on the inside of glovebox door)? The bed side panels look different from the trucks I'm familiar with as well. It is also missing the sidemarker light in the bed but has it on the fender. Interesting.

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
That tailgate here would have people standing behind the truck scratching their heads for hours. First time I have ever seen one like that. You got a great deal for $1800.00.

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
Cool Truck! Congratulations on your purchase. I like the uniqueness of the tailgate. First time ever seeing one like that for me also. I also like the integrated steps in to the bedsides. I think I've only seen a few other pictures of those before. I don't know how unique those things would have been over there, but they sure are unique as far as what we over here are used to seeing.

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
The quarter panels around the tail lights look different than US spec bed. Closer shot?
On the pad at front of motor (extension of cylinder deck on the right side of the motor) there should be a three digit letter code stamped on the motor like "TDH" that code can be looked up to see what year/motor combo you have. It will also have the last 5 (I think?) of the serial # stamped on it.

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
I have never seen a right hand drive.. Way cool. I thought the picture was flipped at first until I noticed the factory harness in the correct location with the brake booster on the opposite side. Nice score.. Can you post more pictures of the inside of the cab?

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
Just did a search and found this one. Slightly different, probably a different year.

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
I saw this one when I was in Cozumel Mexico. It had a different bed too. Didn't get one of the tailgate. Jap Spec, is your wheel well rounded or a long box?

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
It's funny how the cab and front clip are exactly the same as US trucks, but the bed is so different! Why did they do that?

Re: 1972 C10 - South Africa
That green one almost looks like it is part 60's era Ford and Chevy combo. Especially the wheel openings.
