Its the dana 60 front axle. I thought I read somewhere here somebody making a kit with tabs to help keep the axle nut from loosening up

i have never had that issue. what style nut and locking nut are you using? i think my k20 has the tabbed washer. and i think the green truck has the pin washer style. stage 8 makes a locking nut kit. guaranteed not to loosen.

There should be a washer with a bunch Of holes all the way around it And keyed In between the two spindle nuts. The first spindle nut should have a nipple all on it the nipple engages the holes in the washer the key way keeps the nut and washer from spinning and the second nut james it all together if you are torquing the out side jam nut right it should never come loose!!!

Re: 88 J3500 4x4 front axle spindle nut
The problem with them i noticed after doing the brakes on my 89 V3500 is that people put the washers on wrong and break the nipples off thus making them useless i think the kit you are talking about is this http://www.stage8.com/xlock.html.
I bought them from summit racing and installed them and yes they can't really come off because the snap ring design holds it all together, here's my write up on a dana 60 rotor replacement that shows pics of both setups. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=601544

obijuan is right!
The bottom Nut, keyway and snapring in pic from around 85'-up 14bolt will fit Dana 60 front (this should be what you have in rear now if you have a 14 boltff) This way you only need that 1 special socket for both ends.
