Factory Shock Info

Does anyone know what shocks came on a 77 K10? Like color, brand, maybe even a picture? What shock today would be the closest resemblance?

Re: Factory Shock Info

Delco were the factory shocks but nobody not even Delco sold those shocks. They were unique to assembly line installed. The piston body had spiral indents running up the piston body. even under warranty these shocks were replaced with standard Delco shocks that were available anywhere. They were black

Re: Factory Shock Info

Thanks for all the input fellas. So what do we think about Gabriel Ultras as a stock replacement? Or is there a standard for a factory restore?

if your trying to show it as factory concourse restored, other than finding the spiral ones I'd say use any standard shock and paint them semi gloss black. The factory equipped shocks had no labels on them. A Monroe-matic would be comparable to the originals in size and shape, just the wrong color and pull the Monroe label.

The pic above looks almost grey in color..? I'm a factory stock kinda guy. Seems harder and harder to find these trucks not modified.

Re: Factory Shock Info

Yes they do and they look brand new too. GM used that design since the 60's so maybe that photo was for some 60's vehicle. I just pulled it off the internet so you could see what assembly line shocks looked like. But trust me I worked for GM from 78 to 91. The factory installed shocks in everything (car or truck) were semi gloss black. The replacement Delco's were gloss black with a Delco label.

Re: Factory Shock Info

I bought mine from the original owner and she's been modified. The PO started making changes since the first week he owned it back in Dec of 1976. Nothing wrong with that i only look for the ability to change back if I so desire. but Mine has been a street rod truck since new and the original owner obviously loved his truck so much. The work and care showed even through the last 9 years of neglect and storage. see he died in 06 and his wife gave it to her son in law who did not appreciate what he got. After he blew the trans he left sitting in his carport for 6 years till he was getting evicted and that's when I found it. The title was still in the original owners name. The point is I am going to give her the same care as the original owner and I am restoring her to her hot rod days of around 1980. here are 2 photos one is as of 2 weeks ago and the other was the day she came home in early November

Maybe they switched over to the semi-gloss black, sometime between '74 and '78?

That is very possible. I seem to remember grey ones on some late 60's cars. By the time I started wrenching for GM dealers in late 78. The 78's were just about out of warranty. So I can only speak for say 78 onwards. Also 78 was kind of a pivotal year for GM. It was a complete model change for the car lines, the official end of division specific engines, probably a few other notable changes I am forgetting. lol

Nope, honestly I would not think anyone would be that interested. She most likely will never be show quality like she once was. The original owner used to show her In Good Guys events and the Hot August Nights events.

Just want to say I like it a lot, it's similar to my 77 and others friends have had through the years. I wouldn't mind seeing some more pictures of it, and I think other people also.
