Anyone added a rear sway bar?
Thinking of adding a rear sway bar to my '85 2WD SWB. Looking at the Belltech, it is 1 1/8 diameter. Wanting one for increased handling in turns.
Anyone added one? Your experience? Thanks |

Re: Anyone added a rear sway bar?
I put an Addco rear sway bar on my Suburban years ago. It made a nice difference in handling, both std driving and towing a 28' enclosed trailer or 16' pleasure boat. it was easy to install everything bolt on except drilling holes for the 2 frame brackets.

Re: Anyone added a rear sway bar?
I read somewhere that an s10 rear sway bar fits nicely.

Re: Anyone added a rear sway bar?
I have one on my 77 step side. I like a flat handling vehicle and they help in achieving that. Granted I don't have much weight in the rear of mine so its probably minimal help. But still I like the feel from the seat.

Re: Anyone added a rear sway bar?
Sway bars are not always about "bigger is better". Balance is better...What size bar is on the front? Stockers are 1 1/8 -1 1/4". A big sway bar will overload an outside tire and unload an inside one.

Re: Anyone added a rear sway bar?
It's kinda hard to say without looking at everything else. Is it lowered? If so, how much and how was it done? How stiff are the springs? Does it really roll much now? If you're looking for a pro-touring kind of deal read the thread "make it handle" in the suspension thread. Long read but worth reading.....

Re: Anyone added a rear sway bar?
The Addco 202 1" sway bar is probably what I will go with.
