T400 Speedo gear question

I'm replacing the rear tailshaft housing and speedo gear/housing on my 67 w/T400. I'm going from a 37 tooth speedo gear/housing to a 45 gear/housing.

Question: Does the speedo drive gear on the trans output shaft need to ve replaced also?

If you have the right housing, your 45 tooth gear will work with the gear on the shaft.

That's what I thought since the offset is different on the housing. Local tranny shop that is going to replace the bushing in the tail shaft housing confirmed this as well.

Thanks!
